classic,de-catting and mapping
I've just had my car de-catted ,I'm planning on getting it mapped in the future ,how safe is it running it just now without a remap
its a my00 sti ,the only other mod is a k+n panel filter and dv that i'm taking off tommorow. |
Its very safe. Classics don't need a remap, but its better for performance.
|
yeah its safe. ya might get the occasional overboost problem due to the quicker spool up.
|
thanks for the replies :thumb: anymore opinions welcome,
someone had this to say on another thread https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...overboost.html |
Well a classic sti is best to be remapped for uk fuel. Decat or not.
|
...also worth changing the oe fuel pump to a walboro before a remap
|
Completely wrong I'm afraid.I wish people wouldn't post rubbish like "classics don't need a remap". Standard uk classics don't need one agreed (but would benefit from one). No Sti's were sold in the UK, excluding the P1 and the uk 22Bs -and any that made it here as imports need remapping if decatted.
A V6 Sti is a japanese import and is at risk even pre mapping as it's ecu will be expecting to drink 100ron fuel. Decatted it's very much at risk. Drive it off boost and run Vpower minimum, and preferably with NF Race octane booster as well until you do get it remapped. |
Well I got it wrong as I admit I didn't see the STI part.
Just saw my00 and assumed UK as I don't tend to associate later classics as imports, because I don't see many. But another assumption I would have also made, is that anyone with an import would have had modifactions to ensure its safe to run on UK fuel. |
