Noise from engine bay etc! HELP PLEASE!!
 

Just took the scoob out for a spin, being a nice day and all that. When you get to the point you want to put your right foot down and the turbo kicks in its makin an almighty squealing sound. Its boosting at approx 14psi so nothing wrong with the turbo i dont think.

Sounded at first like a wild animal was stuck under the bonnet(i did actually check if it was the neighbours cat LOL) - wish it was!.

Also i dont know if its me getting paranoid but the exhaust sounds like its blowing but it isnt - i checked it all.

Can anyone shed any light on the matter please:(

Is it only on WOT or does it do it at any boost level?

Hi its like a squealing sound from the engine, its not making the noise on normal driving but as soon as the tubo kicks in it squeals its nuts off.

watch out for this one ! i had it on my impreza it turns out it was a idle control bearing in the timming belt set up very loud squealing attracting lots of attention!! ;-/

:luxhello: just looked at yr description again , def check the idle control valve bearing in timming cover. mine bust totally and seized causing the belt to jump 2 -3 teeth on one cam causing slight damage to one bank,now i have slight clicking as engine rotates coming and going. cost me 350 to put rite.

Maybe daft question but how do i check that please!!

A boost leak from a pipe split or not sealed properly is a squealing sound.

Im thinking of taking it to Prosport in Manchester to get it on the rolling road.

If i did this they would be able to tell what if anything was wrong would they not???

Does anyone have any experience with Prosport at all please.

really does sound like its leaking air, if i was you i would take the pipe off from the airfilter to the intercooler, and check for splits and cracks, its surprising how much noise a small split can make, it does go some!! save yourself time and money and have a look yourself.

If I was you I would take to car to a specialist to have a look. I only let one place lay their hands on my car Cotcomp Home Give steve a ring and im sure he can book you in. Its only up the road from you in Garstang.

Nothing wrong with prosport they have a v.good reputation also. Been on their rollers a couple of times and Pete knows what he is talking about.

Without listening to it it is difficult to diagnose but it could be a boost leak as you are only getting the noise on boost.

When did you have the cambelt changed

oNLY HAD THE CAR ABOUT 2 WEEKS. cAMBELT NOT DONE BY ME. I THINK ITS TIME TO GET IT DONE THOUGH. ANYONE RECOMMEND WERE TO GO NR PRESTON AREA AND APPROX PRICE.
