Does the playstation 2 play VCD's, as i am looiking to transfer downloaded movies to cd.

No it doesn't mate!
I've heard you can convert VCD's into PS2 format movies (Not sure of the name of the off the top of my head!) but it's not really worth it cos you only get something like 20mins of video to a full CDR!
