Anyone considering moving to NTL broadband ?

The way it works is that you have to have digital TV, then you put an ethernet card in your PC and run an ethernet cable from your set top box to your PC.

So if you're doing any building work or decorating - plan ahead and run some (straight not crossover) ethernet cable to where you need it......

BTW broadband is the dogs ! The web is now useful - it's like moving from a Landrover to a Scoob - all of a sudden you can make progress !

Just to add to Alistair's post. You need to look at the back of your cable box to see what sort of cable (straight or crossover) you need to link to your PC. IIRC it tells you above the RJ-45 connector on the back of the cable box.

I've got Ntl digital also got an ntl dial up account i thought the cable modems were seperate to the tv stuff, my cable box does have that port though.

same as above- i have ntl box that runs my TV and another in the home office that runs my cable modem- whats the difference to running from the set top box- is it free like that!!!!!!!! (u never know!)

I have a cable modem but no tv from ntl.

Some parts of the country uses a settop box which does tv and has a cable modem built in.

Likewise I have an NTL cable modem but no cable tv.

Internet is free 24/7 but it's only a 64k modem. Better than 56k dial up though. Very stable and as it's free time I can leave long downloads running in the background.

I've got 512K NTL Broadband with the set top box etc.

Excellent service, but I do wish they'd have a separate cable modem as running ethernet from behind the telly to my office was a bit of a pain. Still nothing in life is perfect.

I can't work out why it seems to differ so much across the country, some people having cable modems, some set top boxes, some on TV packages, some not etc.

Tiggers - glad to hear you're the same as me I was beginning to think I was unique.

Oh well - if you have a digital set top box with an RJ45 connecion and want to move to broadband at some stage you might want to consider running ethernet if you are doing some work anyway.
