400+BHP Type r - Whats she worth?
 

Thinking of selling my 98 type r as I just don't get to use her anymore and am finding I need a little more room! not really sure what she's worth.... so I was hoping you might be able to help??

I was going to advertise around the £17k mark including the P-Plate which considering I’ve spent more than that in the last year :confused: seems about right to me! But would like to know what people think. Cheers

The engine/gearbox was rebuilt last december and has done 2k miles max, the respray was only done last july too.

The KAD brakes are still in the post, so they have done 0 miles! :(

I have had a little tally up and i've spent approx £30k in the 5 years i've owned her.

I'm not willing to put back to standard so i know the chances of finding someone who wants a car to my spec might be a little difficult, but if anybody wants to make a serious offer please PM me

£17k sounds about right, but then again its almost impossible to get your moneys worth back! Looks very nice though never seen a red type r:thumb:

Personally i can`t see anyone wanting to spend 17k on a 98 plate car thats not a 22b regardless of whats been done to it, you never know tho as some people have more money than sense!

Same here - lovely looking and spec'ed car, and I have no doubt you've ploughed some money into it, but I think you'd be lucky to get much of it back :(

This is almost impossible to price - if you can find someone who wants it enough you might get what it is "worth". However, the chances of someone actually wanting a 10 yr old Scooby and being prepared to pay £17k for it are basically zero. Without wishing to piss you off I would say a price nearer £10k would be more likely and even then I would be prepared to be haggled down. Sorry.

To be fair i think its worth more than 10k! but i take your point, for that sort of money i would strip as its worth that in bits!

I Know you never get your money back, but in the time i've had her the bill is more like 30k!

I still value the points you've put accross as it will probably make me keep her and buy a second car - which i probably want to do, hence the high price!!

I agree. There`s at least one type r on here thats been up for sale for over a year now at less than £7k and to be honest I doubt you`d even get £10k for yours. The market for resale at the moment is very low and I believe you`d struggle to find a buyer. It does look nice though.

If it makes you feel better then think of it this way. If you had bought a £30k car 5 years ago it would probably be worth about £10k today. The only difference is you bought a much cheaper car and upgraded it. It just feels like it is worth more than £10k because you know the price of every component.

I think this is one of those times to bite the bullet and get rid. Otherwise you're going to have the same car sitting on your drive until it falls to pieces. Cars are rubbish investments and the sooner you fully embrace that the quicker you'll be able to move on.

yes its beautiful and my fav colour on a car and great spec but mate its a 1998 impreza doesnt matter whats been done to it.

what did jase @ scoobybits yellow type-r go for. well over £10k, nearer to £13 and that was for a 350ish 97 model.

£17k... erm no, £12-14k plauseable to the right buyer...

Sad thing is that you've spent all that money to get exactly the car YOU want - finding someone else who would want the same, and would be prepared to pay what it is really worth would be like a needle in a haystack.

I would say a realistic value for the car based on the work done on it probably is around £17K - £20K, but you would probably struggle to get £8K - £10K if you advertised it, and even then its going to take months.

What is interesting is the excellent value of this car. 5 years ago I guess the nearest competitor to this car would have been an Evo 7/8 340. You'd have bought that and no doubt enjoyed it, but it wouldn't have been nearly as special and yet would be worth much the same now. Modifying a car is normally viewed as money wasted, but this thread just goes to show it is actually not such a daft idea.

Your only luck in getting 17k for this car is if you have a doppleganger out there somewhere. Because its been styled exactly to your tastes

Realistically I know 17k is not an option, that was based on the prices that I had seen others at; 1995 wrx with 400bhp for 10k and a few other with 400bhp for 12-13k and they weren't type r's, didn't have special paintwork, PPG box or engines with under 2k miles etc but I also don't know if they sold for those prices!!

It would be nice, but 14k is nearer the figure I would accept and I don't think that is unachievable if the right person came along, it’s just finding that person... I guess I’ll keep my eyes peeled for a cheaper run around; one that I can actually use day in day out and use the back seats too

It was only this morning that I thought of selling, due to one thing and another just haven't driven as much as I would like, not having any brakes being one of them! and working far too many hours another, but after reading the comments above I’m not going to sell, its taken a long time and a lot of cash to get the car as I want and it would be stupid to sell now because I’m having a bad day!

Ok he has styled it to his liking and maybe not to everyones taste but even in todays low prices its worth alot more than 8k.

You'll never get the money back you spend on mods, if it were a show car with 200 miles on the clock, and you could eat your dinner off it, then that would be worth more imo! You could get a rough 22b for that sort of coin, and you'd get more than your money back in few years. Nice car mate, really nice - but personally I'd keep it if you don't want to lose a shed load of cash!

Thats a stunning example, all you can do if you want to sell is test the water and get it advertised, you might get lucky and find someone who is looking for such a car and who appreciates the work you have put into it.
I cant say what its worth but it has to be a dam sight more than the 8k some people have suggested.

I think you should think about the suggested route of getting a runaround and keeping it after all the work thats been done, keep and enjoy.:thumb:

I'm just about to push my Type R to 400bhp and whilst the performance will be similar (Brembo's, 6 speed box etc), it looks nowhere near as nice (yet;))

If I were to sell mine, I'd expect over £10k, so I'd say £14k is the minimum that you should expect.

I've just sold my EvoVII, with 565/480- and close on £100k invested in it.

It had under 30,000 on the clock - can't remember exactly how many- and was immaculate.

After months on pistonheads and the MLR I finally got £18k for it.

Best of luck with your sale.... I'd say 12/13k is the most you would get...

Have you any pics of the interior? I like the idea of your two tone coloured dash... looking at something similar myself.

I don't mean for this to sound rude, but WTF were you doing spending £100,000 on an Evo VII? It must have been a demonstrator or something to do with your company, surely? If not then it must have made more sense to break the car and sell the parts separately?? I know my earlier post extolled the virtues of modding, but there is a limit you know?

That is a very 'individual car' that you have created. It may well be super fast and in yours eyes, look cool. But, 17K can buy a lot of car these days and I very much doubt someone is going to shell 17 big ones on someone elses perfect creation. :thumb:
