Blown Gearbox

Hi guys
I have a uk spec classic impreza turbo w reg running 325bhp, on saturday the gearbox decided to go , so instead of taking a sidestep i want change the box to something stronger that would handle the 325bhp, i have been looking into getting a p1 box, is the box any stronger and also will it go straight in reguarding the diffs? if not what would anyone recomend other than going down the ppg route as i cant afford that set up..

btw does anyone know a rough estimate for a second hand p1 g/box

cheers guys

you will need the diff and shafts to match the p1 box mate.
paid £800 for my box.£200 for diff and £150 for shafts on mine.
been running 360bhp on it for a year with a few santa pods :norty:

tbh your choice is pretty limited, replace with a slightly stronger 5 speed, as sugested p1 or type r, but depending on how you drive it you may find it blows up again very quickly.

recon'd box will possibly do the same.

6 speeder wont be cheap and will dick about with the gear ratio's

ppg box aint gonna be cheap

Cheers for the response guys, just wondering which shafts need replacing front or rear and also why?

cheers

anyone?

not sure, tbh, i thought he shafts were the same for the different diffs, might not be the case hence needing them

yuo don't, I've been running a P1 box on a MY00 UK car for a while; all you need is the diff.

I paid £800 for the box and diff and then spent another £500 on a rebuild...think carefully about going the whole hog to a PPG. I wish I had gone down that route now.

on my my97 the shafts did need to be changed :)

You don't say what torque you're producing, that's what kills boxes, not bhp.

To be honest, if you want to be assurred of a box that'll take the power and accommodate some rough treatment, then you're looking at a 6 speeder from a UK Sti or a PPG gearset.

Give David at Api a bell for a no BS chat.
