what is the best year for an impreza

im new to Scoobynet. i am doing my research so i can own myself a impreza. i need your opinions to which year is the best and why. thanks

barrybudden 20 March 2008 05:41 PM

You should be thinking about how much you can afford to spend on the car, insurance, road tax, maintenance, fuel etc before you worry about what year was the best.

53 20 March 2008 05:43 PM

As above and depends what characteristics / level of comfort you are looking for.:)

mykalem 20 March 2008 05:44 PM

thanks for the advice. my budget is around £6500, i have been getting really sh@t insurance quotes but awaiting a reply from a specialist that a few people have used from here.

thanks

You can probably get an 01-02 bugeye WRX PPP for that, check for sale section below, Pistonheads and Autotrader. Take your time to find the right onr, it's a buyers market. Insist on full history.

pslewis 20 March 2008 07:57 PM

Widely accepted that the last of the Classic version is the best all round.

Wagons are better than Saloons and stay away from the tooth jarring STi's.

My opinion :D

:thumb: WRX PPP SL would suit you best probably, finding one in your budget would be hard as I have only seen them in blobeye guise. Classics are excellent cars no question I have a Hawkeye and an early classic :smug: I could drive either every day although the NewAge is by far the most comfortable and safest too. If you want electrics you would do well to consider JDM models as you get some nice extras like folding mirrors, air con on early cars etc. Tough call at your price range TBH at the £8k range you would be easily in the MY03 WRX PPP SL range:) But at £6.5k it would be hard to say no to a MY00 mint classic. (wagon of course!) :luvlove:

Not sure about the newer models but as far as the classics go I think 1995 -96 was a good year for a WRX! (version 2 cars) get a decent one and it'll serve you well. A basic modded V2 WRX is a performance bargain and all the fun you'll ever need.

53 20 March 2008 08:34 PM

Yes, if you can find a nice, low miles unmolested late Classic you'll still have a couple of grand change for the insurance and petrol! But as we're talking 8 or 9 year old cars, low milers are a bit thin on the ground. But as Pete says, they're definately the best cars Subaru made. Newage are good but a totally different drive.

Goes without saying!

mykalem 21 March 2008 01:06 PM

I realy like the wagon. but as you know the missus will hate the idea of having an estate. its hard enough trying to convince her to sell our bmw for a scooby. but i keep on telling her and she is starting to like the idea.
i have been looking at autotrader. i havent yet found a PPP. am i looking in the wrong place???
i have found many 2.0 wrx turobo. What extras does the PPP add over the conventional WRX turbo??
i really need to get behind a wheel of a scooby and test drive a few. i will do that today. anybody knows where i can pick up a bargain without compromising quality.

jameswrx 21 March 2008 02:53 PM

Have a look on Pistonheads too.

chocolate_o_brian 21 March 2008 02:57 PM

id personally get a classic around 99-00 but im biased:norty:

basically the car is gonna be less than 10 years old, lighter than newages, better looking than newages (imho), cheaper tax, possibly cheaper insurance too. oh and youll have change to get a few obligatory modifications too, ie exhaust, wheels, daft spoiler:lol1: that sounds like me actually:wonder:

scoobynutta555 21 March 2008 03:33 PM

Another vote for a late classic. The best Subaru have made, low tax too ;)

rigga 21 March 2008 10:49 PM

my99/00 classic wagon, best looking scoob by far, good performance as they are lighter than the later cars, more involving drive, and will now be holding their price better as pre 2001 so exempt from the latest stinging road tax rises that can only go higher in time......... get them while you can.

Paul3446 22 March 2008 06:24 AM

Yes I agree, a 99-00 classic would be the best bet, ignore comments about wagon's being better than saloons, it just depends what you're requirements are.:Whatever_

scoobynutta555 22 March 2008 11:08 AM

Yes, wagons better looking than saloons :cuckoo: ;)
