Blinking hell - I dont know

Got a problem, not sure I know what im talking about, here goes.

I have a wired desktop computer and a a wifi laptop, the wife spends hours and hours a night on FACEBOOK, everytime she logs on she slows my system right down, she has so much crap on it.
This morning my desktop was playing about, so I did a system clean and virus scan. The computer had loads of trackers on it and general shyte. I also checked the laptop and it has the same amount of virus checks as the desktop.

Now Can the wife using the laptop infect my desktop?? My desktop is always on during the day.

A virus will try to replicate itself as will a worm onto a networked computer so yes technically you can also be hit. Enabling a firewall on your desktop will help prevent this, windows XP one should suffice, double check the exceptions list in control panel (assuming youre on XP of course)

Not sure what current security you have but make sure decent anti-virus is on both machines. Avira and Avast if you want free, Kaspersky or Nod32 if you dont mind paying

I'd go with Nod32:)

With some viruses it only takes a fraction of second for both to be simultaneously being on at the same time for the laptop to infect the desktop.

Try ccleaner.com to get rid of some of the crap and clean up the registry (although it wont get rid of viruses Trojans etc )I just did this on my 14 year old daughters account and it found 1.3GB of crap ! then fixed 63 problems in the registry

Also super antispyware found stuff on there Nod32 missed

In a word NO, the stuff your on about is just tracking cookies and these come from the sites each PC visits. A cookie wont travel through your home network.

A virus might, but it doesnt sound like you have a virus!
