Newbie Question: JDM Spec or WR1

Hi people,

Potential scooby owner (hopefully!), can anyone advise me on which is the better car to get (regardless of the cost)

JDM Spec STI Version 8
or
WR1

To be honest, I have been looking away from imports, but since being on the site it would appear that some imports may have benefits for more tuning (if i'm correct)

Thanks in advance

Paul

Hi Paul,

You've had no replies coz this has been covered to death and you haven't done a (google assisted...) search.

However, the JDM would be the one to go for in almost every sense. Twin scroll turbo, revised (as in Spec-C) suspension geometry affecting mainly castor angle and thus a slight change to the wheel base (the two are interlinked), oh and a tad lighter too.

Insurance of imports is not the issue it was a few years ago and last, but by no means least, Ice Blue or whatever it's called gives me a headache...

Steve.

Ps. Yes I have driven both.

JDM STi would be the definitive car to go for, in my opinion.

I've owned a JDM 03 STi, and a UK STi PPP and non-PPP STi. The JDM is a totally different car, much quicker pick up from low revs.

Red line at 8000 revs
Orange adjustable illumination on gauges
STi quick rack steering
Rear wiper/washer
Different engine internals
Reversing alarm
Privacy glass
Manual & auto intercooler
Better initial bite on brakes (different pad compound)
STi strut brace (factory fitted)
Rear lights are the circular ones, on UK cars the circular lights are the brake lights.
DCCD - Drivers Control Centre Differential (from 03 onwards)(05 on UK cars)
HID headlights
Twin scroll VF37 turbo
Equal length exhaust manifolds

Hope this helps!

Regards

Greg

I'd get the JDM, but on the flip-side, the WR1 will hold it's money much better.

The main point at the moment is road tax,my JDM has no co2 on the V5 so is taxed as PLG = £185 so over the next couple of years I will be quids in as UK cars will be £400+.

How is that possible. Does this mean it's been incorrectly registered?

It seems like cars registed before 2006 regulations came in were not given co2 readings on the SVA.
