GT5 Prologue - official release dates for BluRay and PSN

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be out on in UK and Europe on March 27 as a download on PSN - more than three weeks ahead of the US.

March 28 will see the release of the Blu-ray version of the game, which you'll be able to pick up play off the disc like any other game. The downloadable PSN version will arrive a day earlier on March 27.

Both versions will cost the same - £24.99. You'd think the PSN download would be a few quid cheaper.

In case you missed the good news last week, the Euro version of GT5P will have heaps of content not in the Japanese version, including new modes, 30 more cars, another track and tons of other stuff.

As well as that, you will also be able to buy the game with a PS3 in a new hardware bundle that packs a 40GB console with the Blu-ray disc for £299 on March 28.

We thought that the Japanese version of Gran Turismo 5: Prologue was a decent enough package as it is, but the UK version will not only feature offline split-screen gameplay, it'll also have 30 more cars, a Driving Line feature, a manual AI difficulty setting and a new intro video.

That's not it - the Western version also brings back the Drift mode featured in the original GT HD demo in which your drifting technique is measured based on drift angles, racing lines, and speeds within evaluation zones located at various turns on the course.

The classic High Speed Ring course from past GT games has been added to the list of five courses in the now shabby-looking Japanese version.

More in-depth car tuning will allow you to "adjust the vehicle's performance, including power, tyres, suspension and the ability for quick tuning whilst racing."

And, finally, the European version will have new race events for the online mode, with a new set of scheduled events and time trials to blast through. Awesome

I got caught by this for GT4, £20 for a demo version, why dont they just get on with it and release it, there was no Forza 2 Prologue and I can't imagine GT5 is going to be much more involved in terms of development, will no doubt get a PS3 at some point but only when the full game is out.

chrisowe 11 March 2008 11:48 PM

£24.99 is far to expensive in my opinion, should be more like £14.99, especially for what is basically a demo. Do they really need to put it onto a Blu-ray disc? Surely a dvd will do.

If that what floats your boat mate, then knock yourself out

I am looking forward to grids of 16, oh about 8 more than the mighty Forza and interior view, oh thats right Forza could not handle interior view due to disc limitations apparently. Oh dear i seem to have a compulsive need to mention the DFP and G25 compatabilty, vastly superior to OutRun inspired MS effort of a wheel

They usually release a Prologue version when the physics have had a major shake up.

Been getting in the mood for this by hammering rFactor

Il never order anything off those idiots again, After ordering Halo 3 months in advance of the release date to be let down, they didnt even post it until release day, then it took 5 days to arrive.

Forgive me if i'm wrong but play have never offered next day delivery on games, they ship within 24hrs, but delivery is always 3-5 working days.

I'd hardly say it fair to bad mouth a company that's delivered as per it's terms and conditions. ;)

rik1471 12 March 2008 09:39 PM

£25 for a demo. That's a bit of a piss take.

Who cares?

Ordering a game 12 months in advance you would think they would post it to arrive on or before release but Play.com have always been **** when it comes to delivering anything.

I've pre-ordered games from play.com before that have taken 3 weeks to arrive after the release date, (and other things that never turned up at all). Would never use that shambles of a company again...

Fact is, I've never had anything but shoddy service from play.com. I tend to use either game.co.uk, or amazon these days (and have had much better service from both).

I tend to buy from play if something is very cheap and i don;t mind if it take 5 days to arrives.

If I actually want something delivered on time, I use Gameplay.

You don't have much luck :D

messiah 16 March 2008 07:26 PM

Please bear in mind that the disc will install itself onto the HDD (if its the same as the jap version) if anyone was thinking they'd get the BR version to save themselves 5gb of storage space...

You probably can run it off the disc though, but I couldn't undertsand the instructions...

Lucky you. I had to threaten them with court action to get my money back on some undelivered items before xmas.

there's a secret car in the PAL version of Prologue to unlock.

The PAL version of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will feature the red Ferrari Formula 1 car that Kimi Raikkononen drove to world championship victory last year.

The Scuderia Ferrari F2007 will appear in the Ferrari dealership in the game for two million game credits and the first official shots of it in action are below.

If you're thinking that using an F1 car in a race against normal cars is outright cheating, you'd be right - it's so fast Sony dubs it "God Mode within Gran Turismo".

We expect the 2.4 litre 90-degree V8 engine (no, we didn't paste that from Sony's site to make it seem like we know loads about the car) and the turning ability of a go-kart, the F2007 will make mincemeat of any other car in the game.
