Homeplugs

Is anyone using them ? If so do you have any feedback ?

Basically all i want to do is connect a computer to the internet thats in another room from the main computer & router. I dont want to run Cat5 & i dont want it wireless.

Do i need one of those server thingy's as well ?

The newer 200neg (in reality 80+/-) are pretty good.

As above, don't look at less than 200 (unless you want to buy my 85s :D)

If all you're doing is connecting your computer to your broadband router then a bog standard 85Mbps pair of homeplugs is fine. Your broadband is probably only coming in at 8Mbps or less ?

Hank loves homeplugs. He'd always recommend them above wireless. ;)

IIRC the Devolo ones are the ones to go for. Dont quote on that though:)

I've used Netgear and DeVolo and both are fine.

:D
Absolutely brilliant at what they do but not fast enough for me...

I've got 85 meg devolos, 45 quid and they're yours.

I've got a Netgear WGXB120 powerline wireless range extender - brilliant. dead easy to set up and the xbox360 links to it and runs a treat (the other end is hard wired into a BT Home hub - which doesn't have the strength to get to the other end of the house)

Solwise HomePlug

I've been using Solwise HomePlugs (85) for over a year now with no problems. My Internet connection is 3Mbps so don't need the faster 200s.

They can be used in a multi-socket extension lead but with one or at most two other devices sharing the lead.

My router is upstairs on one, and I have 3 PCs downstairs each on a Solwise plug. I also have a media disk on one.

HomePlug / PowerLine PL-85PE 85Mbps Ethernet Adapter
