MOT failure?

Is having a non working drivers door opening handle on the inside of the car an MOT failure? Her indoors pulled the bloody thing too hard (the handle that is :lol1: ) and something inside snapped, now you have to open the window and pull the outside handle to open the door.. bah, It's going for it's MOT tomorrow.

Think it is from memory.

If you can't get out of the car, then it's a safety issue. One of my old mercs failed on this or similar a few years back.

They might not check though........

My Merc also failed on about 1000000 other points too!

She only broke it this afternoon, I tried to get the door panel off to try sorting it but it wouldn't budge, I took the two screws out at the bottom and used a screw driver to pop the snap in things out, but the centre was still solid looked for hidden screws but found nothing  It didn't help with the weather being freezing, so I gave up :(

Not exactly new but not a ****ter really, it's a Passat TDI, the car is pretty minted apart from the door handle, Scary thing is she'll be using my car whilst hers is in the garage  She better not break that too.. grrrr!!!

fatherpierre 04 March 2008 09:52 PM

Def get her to pay then ;)

Door cards on newer cars are generally a pain so best not to mess it up further.

Add £30 onto the cost for a few pints too :D. Stress relief from the whole MOT situation

At least its probably possible to repair yourself on a volks

My citreon door handle outside came off in my hand , £165 if the stealers were to replace it

fatherpierre 04 March 2008 10:30 PM

Depends how it's linked.

Just getting the door card off on some cars is a total ****

The Merc I had, mentioned above was a 1983 model with manual linkage from handle to lock and took me 3 hrs to sort.
