I can remember setting up and using my Out of Office Assistant on my old network in Outlook 97, but is it possible to set up an auto-reply from my home PC using Outlook 2000?

If you to go Tools > Rule Wizard, you can define a rule to auto reply with a set template. Quite easy, just step through the Wizard starting on "Check Messages when they arrive"

Have to leave Outlook running all the time for it work to though.

Same as before. Tools --> Out Of Office Assistant :)

Rules Wizard and OOOA are different. I'm pretty sure you only get OOOA if you are using Exchange.
