On the look out

Hello everyone, I soon hope to be in the market for my first Impreza. I will have about £6k to spend on a year 1999-2001 classic shape.

Is there anything in particular that I should be aware of asking about, when I go to view one.

Any advice or links to information will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

Another question, are JDM imports usually more powerful and more robust than UK versions?

I was just wondering whether possible higher insurance premiums might be worth it if the car is genuinely better than a UK one.

JDM cars come with some extras like rear wash wipe.

All in all, they'll be similar to each other if you've never had one before.

I'd suggest an STI5 maybe.:wonder: :)

£6k should get you a pretty good one, be prepared to travel and wait for the right one. If they're standard they're very reliable, so nothing major to look for.

Thanks for the replies, you've been most helpful.

There is something I forgot to mention, how are they for parts and servicing?

Parts and servicing are okay, can't quote a price but dealers with service both UK and JDP in my experience.

There's plenty for sale at the moment, so you can take your time and gete a good one at a good price.

I paid about £200 for a full service at Special Scoobies in Colchester who are an excellent independent Subaru specialist.

A few years back I paid £750 for a cambelt service at Haddocks, the Subaru garage in Colchester. Special Scoobies later told me they would have charged about £450 for the same service.

If you let us know where you are, I'm sure someone can recommend a local specialist to visit.

I don't see any point in taking an 8 year old car to a Subaru dealer, you're just throwing your money away as far as I can see.
