So British Gas have made massive profits this year

And as a thank you they have put my Gas & Electric up by 15% each as they said they can no longer maintain the low charges that they have been doing due to spiralling energy costs to them

Bunch of fecking twats

dpb 28 February 2008 06:24 PM

We dont get our leccy from this lot anymore

They may well be cashing in on the uncertainty - but what can yo do
( actually YOU could stick up a 100ft turbine in yo back gharden)

JimmyBFC 28 February 2008 06:25 PM

tbh they are all the same, no real benefit to p[icking one over the other.

Luminous 28 February 2008 06:25 PM

Ah yes, but they have been investing heavily in something or other, that will mean your bills won't alter one little bit.

...oh, and the investments they made, they did so well they still have all that cash! Amazing, it seems you really can have your cake and eat it

Thieving robbing *******s is all I can say :D

MikeCardiff 28 February 2008 06:26 PM

Consider yourself lucky you arent using oil ! In 6 months the prices for 500 litres has gone up from around £160 to £270 !

Sonic' 28 February 2008 06:30 PM

I know there isn't much between any of the suppliers

Why cant they just make 10 million quid profit less and keep the charges the same

Its a bit like when BT where making 100 quid a second profit (or was it a minute) and they still kept putting prices up

dpb 28 February 2008 06:32 PM

Because they can - your only defence is to buy shares or move to Russia

Because the nice Tories privatised them, so they now HAVE to make profits to keep the shareholders happy:mad:

And the leccy, AND the water, AND the railways, AND Steel, etc etc.

But hey: Tory supporters filled their pockets, so that's OK:mad:

I think the price is about to go up again!! lol

With Bacton, if its the right type of gas that is.

DocJock 28 February 2008 07:09 PM

Their profit as a percentage of turnover is very small.

Stop just looking at the tabloid headline number.

Same as petrol really I guess. Massive volumes, small percentage = large figure, but on scale, nothing amazing.

Yes its terrible that a successful business is employing all those people and providing a service that people are prepared to pay for (because they could go to one of about 20 different suppliers instead). Its terrible that they are paying all that tax into the Government to pay for roads etc....

Terrible that people are whinging about success more like

Dracoro 28 February 2008 10:19 PM

People want it both ways, sorry but you can't.

Where do you think the profit that you get in savings, shares, pensions come from?

If hardly any companies make any money, then your pensions and savings are worth diddly squat.

Not to say it should go completely in that direction, simply needs to have a balance of affordability and making good profits.

I'd be far more concerned with tax and govt. wastage, all that does is cost you money and you don't get any future or long term benefits.

Just how many times are we meant to pay for our roads? :cuckoo:

Road tax?
Fuel tax?
Income tax?
Corporation tax?

Which one is it? I'd love to know, cos the buggers keep charging us, but never actually spend any of it on the bloomin roads

Klaatu 28 February 2008 11:58 PM

Just wait when carbon taxes and/or carbon trading starts.

Shark Man 29 February 2008 12:03 AM

Last time I checked, BG gas+electric combo package was one of the cheapest tarrifs (certainly, there was very little between them at least)

Thats right. And it was Centrica that made the profits. British Gas is just an arm of Centrica.

All the profit is from people like me being billed for spending an hour on the phone for the ## time trying to sort the bills out !
