"Give it some beans"??
Where on earth does this phrase come from? Times iv heard it used are for example, when someones driving, and they give it some beans, meaning to put the pedal to the metal lol
I tried explaining it to one of my coworkers here in japan. I explained, by saying, "you know baked beans?....well when u eat them, farts come out with tremendous force, so in the same way, full power in you car is similar in that essence" :luxhello: mike ;) |
Pedal to the carpet surely :Suspiciou

I googled it and saw give some beans to daddy and closed the window...

It refers to the magic beans in Jack & the Beanstalk : because the fairy stories that normally follow the comment '... so I gave it some beans ...' require a certain amount of disbelief suspension.
|
"Give it some welly" up here as well which I assume is foot related. ;)
|
"boot it" again foot related I suspect :)

I remember a group of mates getting enthusiastic and at some point the phrase "Slap some Marmite on it!" would appear...
|
or maybe its some derivation of give it some coke ( steam locos) :)
|
Not sure of the exact origin but I watched a documentary on the Battle of the Somme and heard a comment from the memoirs of a German soldier stating that their machine gunners issued the cry "come on lads, give em beans" at the start of the battle. He said it was a term of Brandenburger origin.
