New member - Not a Subaru (Yet)

Right as you can probally tell from my username I havent got a Subaru, yet, I did look at one this morning and I'm pretty sure (if I can juggle my money around) it will be the one I buy (hopefully) - The car in question is a Red k-ref WRX (import) and is in great condition for its age.

Just though Id post a few pic's of what Im looking to leave behind in favour of a Subaru.

My current car of 2 and abit yrs is a 1999 Phase2 Saxo VTS 16v, now I know the saxo has a slightly chavy image problem but that is one of the reasons I'm looking to move on. I now find it a little sad saying I'm in my late 20's and driving a Saxo :lol1:

So dont be too hard with the comments as I am getting rid of it in favor of a Subaru.

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...FrontWheel.jpg

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...2EnginePic.jpg

The list of mods are as follows:
Green enclosed induction kit
Piper 4-1 manifold
Sports Cat
Straight through exhaust from cat back to a Custom GroupN style back box
OMP Upper and Lower Strut braces
GroupA rear anti roll bar
Pi 35mm suspension, torsion bars lowered to match
Polly bushes all round
Series1 106 Rallye Steel rims

Up until just before Christmas I was running in a Single seat setup as the forum I belong to with the saxo that was the in thing (track slag), here are the pic's from then

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...tDoorCards.jpg

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...72Interior.jpg

The difference in terms of acceleration and pick-up where amazing as the VTS has 120bhp out of the box and I reckon with my mods I was upto 130bhp ish

I love the car but the build quality leaves alot to be desired and both me and the missis just fancy something a bit nicer - hence the move back to a Jap car and the quality build quality and performance.

So there you go, hopefully it should be too long before Im posting pic's of something altogether more Subaruy very soon

austinwrx 21 February 2008 04:56 PM

why has yr number plate got stupid spacing ???

Daft Lad 21 February 2008 04:58 PM

I quite like that, I don't know sweet FA about Saxo's but that looks a lot better than most of the ones I usually see razzing around town!

Austin - I believe the spacing is to imitate the style of french number plates, a lot of VW's have the same thing with german style plates too :)

:lol1: We've all been there and done that mate :lol1:

Are you part-exing or selling privately?

Good luck with the Impreza.

Me mate just got rid of his saxo vts, it was pretty nippy, had it chipped up an all,but he had probs trying to sell it,as it was the vts a lot of younger lads cant insure the vts, he ended up part ex,only got like 1000 for it...
good luck though mate:thumb:

M444GY 21 February 2008 05:19 PM

not alot of passenger luxuries in there mate lol :)

VTS_16v_Boy 21 February 2008 05:24 PM

I'll probally sell it through the forum I use Saxperience - Citroen Saxo Forum ¦ Citroen Saxo Car Club ¦ Citroen Saxo Community, fun little cars I admit but its just time to move on now.

Yep the plate is spaced to look like a French Plate, quite big in the French hot hatch sence but most people just have the F euro logo added but I went for the full look. Your be suprised how many people ask why I have a French car, the badges on the boot also help to confuse people as they are not used to seeing that kind of layout, as they are factory items just from later cars ie the Citroen is off a Picaso the Sport below it from a Renault Sport Cilo and the VTS off a C2.

Not alot of people like my car as I put it together more for the pleasure of driving than to be a sheep and fit in to the crowd lol

Flaps 21 February 2008 05:36 PM

Regarding the plate, I thought you were just another international member :lol1:
I was registered on Saxsperience too but spent more time over on SSC.
They were great in their day, but I understand why you want to move on. I felt the same.

Mifo 21 February 2008 06:53 PM

Ive got to confess I have been there as well.:thumb:

http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/a...7/Image042.jpg

good little cars if you ask me, despite having the chav image labelled to them. I only had engine mods on mine and kept the outside standard.

It did feel quick at the time but now I have more than double the bhp and awd.

Anyway welcome and dont foget to put pics of the scoob up when you get it.:thumb:

Elmer Fudpucker 21 February 2008 07:06 PM

I think I'd stick with the Saxo over a Subaru *that* old.

and I wouldn't necessarily associate a Saxo with the term 'chav'

...but 'scooby'?,just the name alone is chavvier than a chavvy thing...thats one thing really makes me cringe that is:mad:

leigh4x4 21 February 2008 07:23 PM

i was also a proud owner of a saxo about 4 years ago:thumb:

Prasius 21 February 2008 07:32 PM

<- another ex-saxo owner here.

Unfortunately there are some pig saxo's out there - the same there are pigs of every car that get bought by "petrolheads" with dubious taste. Not just Imprezas either.

Those who really slag them off usually haven't ever driven one either - once you've got over the fact your knee smacks against the dash every time you change gear.. and that you don't have anywhere to put your leg out of the way, and if you have feet larger than size 5s you can't avoid hitting two pedals at once.. and that they rattle all the time.. even when new.. - they're actually great fun little things to drive. :)

osborne 22 February 2008 10:04 AM

i'm an ex saxo owner aswell lol,
My first car was a x reg vts. loved it, was black with standard wheels powdercoated gunmetal grey an different front grill.
Other than that it had quaiffe diff, exhaust, manifold, de cat, air filter, chip, coilovers etc.
Was quite nippy

Daft Lad 22 February 2008 10:34 AM

I'm knocking around in a 1.4i Furio at the moment while the Impreza is off the road, in the Saxo world is that the equivalent of driving round in a GL? :lol1:

Nah.. its the equivalent of driving around in a GL with a full turbo bodykit on it ;)

Has it still got the gopping original interior in it? :)

:lol1: Thats pretty much how my last Impreza was anyway, so I feel right at home! :lol1: :thumb:

Yes, everything in the car has yellow trim on it, including the gearknob, its lovely :freak3:

COLZO 22 February 2008 12:00 PM

Be careful when buying an Impreza of that age, you could end up with more hassle than its worth. Good luck all the same mate.

projectsubaru 22 February 2008 01:37 PM

Me too had one running 155 hp catcams etc absolutely loved it.

rossi_p 22 February 2008 02:07 PM

Good luck with the Impreza fella.

I'm much more of a Peugeot fan myself with a couple of 205's (one 1.6 GTi and one stripped out 1.9 Mi16 with webbers) and a 106 GTI. Just always felt the Pugs had more character.

Welcome to the forum!

BrEvY 22 February 2008 05:25 PM

banny sti 25 February 2008 10:53 AM

JTaylor 25 February 2008 11:08 AM

Hello and welcome to the forum. The seatbelt arrangement is ridiculous, so is stripping out carpet and sound deadening but leaving in the spare wheel.

I've welcomed the gentleman to the forum and put a couple of smilies in the post. That's more than reasonable, Banny and I'm very well thank you, Sir.

Red k-ref WRX (import). :norty:
