wrx sti ppp

Hi folks. Im looking at buying a impreza and am thinking of one of these Autotrader - SUBARU Impreza 2.0 WRX STi Prodrive . Is the prodrive version as reliable as the normal wrx sti? Whats the 0-60 on one of these? Anything i should look out for? Any advice gratefully recieved. Ken.

TimWRX01 20 February 2008 03:40 PM

It's Prodrive styled so exactly the same performance as a normal Sti

0-60 is 5.17 seconds I think

You can get PPP for it to take it down to 4.62 seconds

Kenny P 20 February 2008 03:47 PM

I thought it was prodrive engine wise. Thats what im after the ppp kit fitted one.

SamUK 20 February 2008 03:51 PM

Dnt do it...get a 03 plate....unless your a fan of the Bug Look... :thumb:

SamUK 20 February 2008 03:52 PM

Also check PistonHeads.com :: Speed Matters if not already done...Good luck...as i am also looking for one...though this will be my 4th one..

Kenny P 20 February 2008 03:56 PM

Im new mate lol. Point me in the right direction

martiboy 20 February 2008 04:08 PM

Im of the same opinion as SamUK,go for an 03 plate.I'm not a great fan of the bug eye look thats why I've changed my headlights for morrette's,I think they look better, but thats only my opinion. As for owning one, they'll make you skint......but its well worth it.I get a big smile everytime I drive her !!!!!!!!!!

When I was buying my first Scoob, I got well confused over this issue at first. Most (but not all!) bugeyes (pre-2003 newage cars) described as Prodrive will only be talking in terms of styling, and not be fitted with the Prodrive Performance Pack. The PPP is more commonly found on blobeyes (2003 on) as it wasn't yet released when bugeyes were on the go.

If you can afford an 03 car then I would also agree you'd be better off, but some bugeye owners would doubtless disagree :norty:

Im working on it....but believe you me i know how painfull it can be looking and finding the right Scoob....!

I sent you a PM...:thumb:

Kenny P 20 February 2008 05:54 PM

is the performance the same on the bug eye as the 03. I dont mind the look of the bug eye tbh gives it character but if there are improvements to the car beyond the front styling it will sway me.

Shot8un 20 February 2008 07:03 PM

A. Its a bit pricey (its a buyers market)
B. You'd get an 03 blob Sti for bit more.

Check suspension bushes, clutch, noisy turbos, gearbox should be tight as a ducks... Check if you can if its been warmed and cooled properly. Look for cack handed self modifications + all the obvious like watertight service history (Phone the dealership that serviced it to confirm its genuine FSH):freak3:

Good luck mate... stressfull int it:thumb:

Oh and... start saving and get a petrol card :D

You all seem to be pointing me towards a 03. Is there anyother changes to the car other than cosmetic eg performance related issues?

No. the only difference is the headlights pretty much. There is very little difference. And its cosmetic.

No difference in performance - You can get bugeye STi's with PPP easily enough. I had one until 2 years ago.:)

Believe also that suspension was revised and steering quickened on the 03 models, according to JC.

Kenny P 20 February 2008 08:52 PM

jc? jeremy clarkson?

The rear shockers were still prone to goin on 03 models as well. This should be resolved now as most 02 onwards cars will have had em changed!! No idea regards steering.

Thanks for the advice so far guys. :notworthy Is it better to go for a low mileage example rather than a 60-70k on the clock?

urban 21 February 2008 04:09 PM

I'd be inclined to go for an MY05 model if your budget can stretch.

They have the DCCD-A etc.
And I've recently learned that these are the best model of the whole lot from a remapping point of view.
I was told that Subaru have sorted out all the niggly sensor issue with this version.

Im looking about the 10k - 14k mark. I also like the P1 would i better buying a wrx sti ppp 03 plate than a older same mileage P1?

jayb1970 21 February 2008 09:13 PM

The P1 is indeed a nice motor but I find the owners a little "clicky" ( can feel the backlash already!!), no seriously it is a nice motor.
Have a look at View My Scooby, cost £13k and it is mint! There are a lot of scoobs out there for sale and it can be a minefield to those not in the know. So just look for the basics FSH(Subaru) decent after market mods, not Halfrauds, tidy paint etc, etc.
Have a look at the for sale section coz you won't do better that buying one from an enthuiast:thumb:

Brewski 21 February 2008 10:11 PM

Get the buyeye prodrive styled sti, cant beat a bit of individuality and if you find a mica black one there are apparently only 100made in that colour??!!

I've just bought one with Fsh,cambelt done and is in mint condition!!
I'll try and get some photos squared at the wkend if thats any good??
Cheers

The 03sti has loads of under the skin mechanical updates over the 02, I would go for a 03sti. I did in fact :)

dipster.

Kenny P 23 February 2008 11:44 AM

Is the P1 a good buy? See im torn between a wrx sti ppp or a P1. Love the 2 door impreza. Which is faster ppp or p1? Which would you guys go for?

trails 23 February 2008 12:33 PM

go drive them both and then make your decision...I drove a bug and a blob and then brought a classic ;):D

dunx 23 February 2008 12:42 PM

I've had my Prodrive (etc) from new in 2002, given it all the hard work I can manage and it's taken it all...
New track control arm 20,000 miles (forced off the road by a blonde bimbo !)
New rear shockers at 25,000 miles
New front discs at 37,000 miles

Many new tyres LOL

I say don't chase PPP cars, especially at a high price, it's cheaper to add a new exhaust and do a re-map for far less money, and you will get 330 bhp over 300 bhp for PPP.

Bug-eyes are out there from £8000 upwards, but if you find a "perfect" P1 give at a go as they are nearly as gorgeous as the bug-eye Prodrive Edition.

Flame-suit on..... runs away swiftly.
