Overheating

Hello,

I've got a '97 Turbo 2000 UK. It's started overheating in the last couple of days. I noticed there seems to be a leak from the Air Conditioning rad but the main rad seems fine. Would a leak in the air con rad cause the engine to overheat or are they seperate systems?

Thanks.

separate systems.

has the level in the main rad dropped at all?

The level is dropping rapidly as soon as it starts to overheat.

There's definately fluid appearing on the front rad and it seems to be hissing.

Erm. quick thought. Is the main radiator filled by the tube behind the front left headlight or is that just for the air con rad?

sounds like a split rad hose, or possible the joint between the rad and the pipe.

althought it wouldn't explain the over heating, is the temp gauge on the dash going up? or is it just the hissing making you think its over heating?

The temp gauge is going up.

I think i might have been a muppet and filled the air con expansion tube up instead of the main rad reservoir. Just a coincidence I have a hole in the air con rad. I'll check when I get back form work tonight.

Thanks for your help anyway.

no probs, check the water level in the rad, its a sealed system so shouldn't have dropped, if it has then you prob have issues somewhere.
