Right now that I have your attention http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Is it easy to de-cat my MY00? has it got two cats? I took the Cat off my Calibra and ran it on leaded - it was brilliant!!! Would you run the scoobie on LRP if the cats were removed???

Pete

But then it won't pass the MOT http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Ian Cook 30 December 2000 08:34 PM

Do not run an Impreza on LRP, it will destroy the lambda sensor !

Yes the UK car has 2 cats one on the downpipe, one on the centre section. It is easy to do, but the downpipe is time consuming, ie allow a good 2-3 hours.

pete, I always knew you batted for the other side http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Pete
Got our two MY00's down to Mr Croney's emporium in August and fitted two (decatted) systems from the turbo back plus ITG panel filters.

Come out of the closet, you won't regret it!!

Run on SUL if you can find it.

Moves the turbo spoolup point down the rev range so increases pickup, moderate power increase but sounds BRILLIANT!!
Can now set off car alarms in car parks and frighten the sh1t out of people when it backfires when you overtake them.

Juvenile? - absolutely!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Do it Pete - you won't regret it. I run Magnex decat centre & backbox with HKS induction kit on my MY00. Downpipe will follow shortly (then I can take Dave on for the number of car alarms I can set off http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif)

sounds like de-catting is a popular thing - but how do u get round the MOT emmission testing? Also is it a point of law that all UK road cars made after 1991 must have cats fitted?

sickboy 31 December 2000 04:30 PM

chaps, a couple of questions (one already asked)
Will it pass the MOT?

Also do you get better MPG?

Have a Scooby New Year!

Dave T-S 31 December 2000 05:26 PM

MOT pass - with just front cat still in - possibly, at least on hot test. With neither cat, doubtful (unless you know the mot tester http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif)
Our cars will be sold by the time the mot's are due so don't care http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Running a car that will probably fail a roadside emissions test? - well i'm not a child molester (leave that for Sunlip http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif) or an axe murderer so if this is the worst offence I commit i'll stick two fingers up at Fatty two Jags Prescott and continue.

Fuel consumption - no idea, just pour it in one end and burn it out of the other - I suspect it is worse though because you spend so much time driving down narrow streets in second with the window down listening to that LUVVERLY noise..... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Chris - what's your alarm score so far M8?? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Ian Cook 31 December 2000 05:45 PM

Mot pass with just downpipe cat in DEFINITE, with both out definitely not! (unless of course you are using an aftermarket ecu Link etc as you can map to get best emissions)

You can get round it by fitting a centre section with a cat, and getting it good and hot, then get the tester to test the emissions immediately, should pass no problem.

Legality of this is of course doubtful http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

And when i had my scoob, i could set car alarms off at will in car parks and on the street, http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif LOL especially bimmer ones, which was nice http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif LOL and that was only with centre and backbox.

OK OK you lot - dont get excited - it was just a question - I doubt very much whether I will knock my residuals by messing about with the standard car http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif coz I'm cleverer than you lot D) and want as much of my money back ... but I DO like the idea of more noise!!

Have a great 2001 all of you - I've had fun winding some of you up since June 2000 http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Dave, only a couple since fitting the HKS http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif - Must try harder...

Chris

Hi M8

Only two alarms for me too - well, actually, it was the same car two days running http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

CJRH 02 January 2001 01:34 PM

Another question for you all, I am already running Magnex rear section and back box and will be getting an induction kit soon, probably Piper Cross, on MY99. By removing the centre CAT how much of a noise increase am I looking at, and will I get decent back fires?

Cheers, Chris
