What a great Gizzmo! Shift ligh with launch control and Defi style features

What a great gizzmo! We were offered these nifty gadgets the other day and thought we would give one a try before putting some into stock. And we were simply amazed at just how good these really are! Obviously we all know what a shift light does and why they are used but the Gizzmo tach recall has a couple of brilliant features above and beyond a normal shift light that we must tell you about! The shift light works like most others with first and second stage flashing LED’s but now for the trick bit, The Shift light connects to your factory Dash and controls the rev counter displaying the ECU’s set rev limit (preset by the user on the Gizzmo), Second stage rev limit, fist stage rev limit all indicated on your OE Rev counter with the needle moving! The opening ceremony when you first start the car is very trick and looks very similar to the Defi opening sequence. The unit also records peak trip revs and at the touch of a button your rev counter will display the maximum revs reached on that current trip. The final feature is also very good as the shift light works in unison with the Gizzmo fully adjustable launch control system, allowing awesome starts and flat shifting! Now for the best bit the price! All these features for just

Tach recall light £97.88 + VAT
£150+vat fitted

Launch control interface £93.62 + VAT
Fitted price POA
please be aware you do not have to buy the lauch interface for the shift light to work properly.

Check out the video (poor quality as it was done on my phone) but you can clearly see the rev counter moving and the Shift light flashing

Step one: Ignition on, rev counter shoots up and displays MAX set rev limit (preset by user on Gizzmo)
Step two: needle drops to second and the main preset set rev limit + indicator flashes blue
Step three: Needle drops to first stage preset rev limit + indicator flashes orange
(ignore the beeping sound on this video as it a defi controller and nothing to do with the shift light)

Product>>Gizzmo Tach Recall Shiftlight
The Gizzmo's Tach Recall Shiftlight is a unique dual stage shiftlight, which incorporates the features of many aftermarket tachos into any tacho. The Gizzmo Tach Recall Shiftlight allows any tacho to have a peak rpm saved to memory which can be recalled and displayed at any one time, the peak rpm reached during the current trip is available for recall. The shift stages are set using the two-button configuration to move the tachos rpm needle to the desired revs for each individual stage. Upon the ignition being switched on the unit will display peak saved rpm, second stage shiftlight setting and then first stage shiftlight setting, by indicating the rpm position on the tacho, and flashing the corresponding LED's.

Dual Stage Shiftlight, 2 colour, 7 LED's
Fully adjustable: 500-16 000 rpm
simple two button operation
2 Peak RPM Memories recalled via tachometer Shift points set via tachometer
Launch control option available, with the addition of the Gizzmo Launch Interface

Launch control
Product>>Gizzmo Launch Interface
Gizzmo's launch Interface integrates with the Gizzmo Tach Recall
Shiftlight to enable the fully adjustable launch control function. The launch control function induces sequential misfire events at the desired rpm set by the user.
In a turbo application, having the throttle open while inducing misfire
increase the velocity and density of exhaust gases, allowing the turbo to spool up and generate boost with load. This results in boost being
generated before launching and therefore allowing a vehicle to launch with considerably more power. The ignition cut is clutch activated
allowing flat changing (the ability to change gear without removing your foot from the throttle). With the clutch engaged the rpm will pull back to the launch rpm previously set by the user in order to avoid over reving, this results in the vehicle not coming off boost while moving through the gears.
Launch control can benefit natural aspirated cars by giving a consistent launch rpm for best results every time, and enable quicker gear changes through flat changing.
Fully adjustable launch control
Adaptive auto detect software
Interface for 1-6 coil application
Fuzzy Logic technology
Sequentially induced misfire
Technology

Compatible Vehicles:
All Nissans
All Subaru's
All Mazda's accept Rotaries
All Honda's
All Mitsubishi's

Looks good.

Can someone give me an idiots explaination of Launch Control?

Do you stamp on the gas and it counts down, puts the clutch in for you and bang your off?

Marky9074 30 January 2008 01:06 PM

All in the small print...

The launch control function induces sequential misfire.....

......having the throttle open while inducing misfire
increase the velocity and density of exhaust gases, allowing the turbo to spool up and generate boost with load. This results in boost being
generated before launching and therefore allowing a vehicle to launch with considerably more power

sjwdavies 30 January 2008 01:13 PM

lol - I read that, obviously, but didn't understand it!

So it revs the engine without you pressing the accelerator?

Scott.T 30 January 2008 01:33 PM

So how does it know what the ECU's set rev limit is as each ECU's rev limit parameters are in a differents locations.
Or are you talking about a Rev limit set in the Gizmo.

how does it control the launch control as surley it would need to interface with the ECU and take control and monitor certain elements i.e ignition and rpm etc...

The rev limit is set in the Gizzmo and the launch controll interface then conects to the ecu.

Can someone explain the launch control for an idiot?

specialx 30 January 2008 03:04 PM

it makes the car rev up ready for a launch, simply put :D

Can you describe how you would 'launch' with this fitted?

How much/little you press the right pedal and when, and how gear changes go?

serega 30 January 2008 05:04 PM

Yeah great: imagine driving at night with that thing flashing before your eyes just before you reach a corner, why would you need that crap anyway, are there people stupid enough not to know when they need to change gear?

Great well thought out reply that!:thumb:

:Whatever_ for competition/Drag/race applications I think you will find them a good thing to have as you can concentrate on the road not your clocks!

fwdnutz 30 January 2008 06:34 PM

Looks good especilly for tack days :thumb:
but will it fit all model scoobys as mine is earlier classic dash?:wonder:

jonny gav 30 January 2008 06:42 PM

not good for the life of your turbo though is it!

Floyd 30 January 2008 06:51 PM

I quite like the idea of the shift light with rev counter control

If you want an independant test car I can do a review for you on my project thread...?

So its more a lower (adjustable) rev limiter to enable you to keep foot full down on the accelerator.

bomno44 30 January 2008 07:05 PM

ys the launch control is used when moving off the line.. you set a certain rpm say 4500 and when the clutch is engaged you can put the throttle all of the wa down but it will develope a misfire to limit the rpm to the set value. this should enable the car to have a perfect start everytime.. Also being able to use it as a flat shift is very good but most of this is for track use really...

Yep that's them:thumb:

We have the boost controllers instock aswell but have yet to try one out, they do look very good so once tested we will let you know.

think your thinking of antilag mate

L33_WRX 01 February 2008 12:12 PM

jonny gav - It's not so good on your clutch. Great price for this unit tho

It will be just as hard on the clutch as full on launching is!

hamyam 19 February 2008 08:36 PM

Would it work n a sti ra 95 ?

Andy.F 19 February 2008 09:05 PM

Not sure about using an ignition cut on a turbo motor ? Tends to be very hard on headers and turbos. Normally the best/safest way to limit rpm is via a fuel cut as per the OEM rev limiter or Ecutek launch control.

hamyam 19 February 2008 09:07 PM

Hi Andy was looking at the shift light really ,just had my sti ra 95 mapped by jgm and could do with a shift light

millwrx 19 February 2008 11:38 PM

have ordered a bee-r racing one of these, works along the same idea but has two settings, one for peak rpm and a lower one for launching, would also allow flat changing,£128 of ebay from japan.this too is a ignition cut one which also allows you too tune the cut,for pops and bangs and backfires, should be a hoot.

hamyam 19 February 2008 11:52 PM

have you a link?
