DVLA must be having a laugh....!!!

Got my Tax renewel today, guess how much......

£300 per year!!!!!!!!!!!!

My car is totally standard FFS!!!

Oh well, suppose I didn't buy the car for its cheap tax.... or cheap fuel..... or cheap tyres...... or cheap parts!!!!!

Cornelius 24 January 2008 02:13 PM

Strange, the new tax rules governs cars registered after 1st March 2001, more details :

The cost of vehicle tax for cars, motorcycles, light goods vehicles and trade licences : Directgov - Motoring

Is this for the Type R in your profile?
It must be a mistake.

NickBes 24 January 2008 02:25 PM

That sounds wrong Emma, does your V5c (log book) have a date the car was first registered? The DVLA might have messed up with when the car was first registered over here thinking this was the date of manufacture?

NickBes 24 January 2008 02:27 PM

I am sure mine was £180.00 for the year and £99.00 for 6 months.

53 24 January 2008 02:34 PM

I have heard of this before on an import recently. £400 next year. :(

I my case the same spec MY06 Spec-D on hear recently registered 1st march 2006 pays £220 or whatever. Mine MY06 Spec-D registered 25th March, Paying £300 then £400:razz:

Why exactly, how many trees does my 180 quid save :hjtwofing :hjtwofing :hjtwofing none you ar5se ! Sorry rant over !

EmEm 24 January 2008 02:59 PM

The thing is I got the car SVA'd, MOT'd and registered my self, and when I took all the docs to DVLA to register it, they said they have to base the Tax on the emissions and NOT the engine size (like they did with my white Scooby) but what annoys me is the car is standard and the emissions are minimal!! When I first taxed it when I registered it was £165 for 6 months, so it hasn't suddenly increased!
Do you think I should call DVLA and quibble it, or just face facts that I can't buy a 2.0L Turbo and expect to pay 1.1L tax prices!!!!!!??

Hhhhmmmm, you mean lardy new age models do you :D

SirFozzalot 24 January 2008 03:44 PM

Sounds wrong to me, but if the car was first registered over here after 23rd March 2006 then it looks like it will fall in to the higher tax bracket.

It may well be standard Em but they still chuck out high CO2 emissions which puts them in the higher tax bracket.

EmEm 24 January 2008 03:58 PM

Yep, that makes sense SirFoz. Mine was registered over here Aug 07, where as my old white Scooby was registered over here in 04 I think, so that does add up! Oh well, another reason that makes my car sooooo special!!!

NickBes 24 January 2008 04:16 PM

Mine was first registered in 2005 over here, on the V5c it does says approx first year of use 1995. it might because yours is less then 10 years old and you had to have a SVA not just a normal MOT :wonder:

SirFozzalot 24 January 2008 04:20 PM

Wasn't it one of Bibo boys scoobs that he had that had an "02" plate on a classic? :wonder:

I think that must have been due to car being first registered over here in 2002, still don't think it should have had an "02" plate but that must have been a c0ck up by the DVLA.

When I was looking to PX my Mica Red WRX, I made a point to look for cars registered before Brown's deadline date. Took me a while, but I did find one STI that still has the £205 charge........ So there are some beautiful "New Age" cars that don't have to pay the rip off charges.....

Spec'c'57 24 January 2008 10:32 PM

a bit on this....

Yawn :Whatever_

Yep, my Type R was a 98 on an 02 plate due to DVLA issues! :norty:

I thought I was going to get stung for mega tax due to the plate....

But that was £180 for 12 months......

Em.... That sound wrong.

Spec'c'57 25 January 2008 08:07 AM

EmEm 25 January 2008 08:34 AM

Well, I got my tax last night. Just got 6 months (£165) I did think about calling DVLA but I'd probably get fobbed off with some reason or another as to why its that much!!!

bibo_boy 25 January 2008 10:07 AM
