will i reach 350hp with....

hi all, iv got a 98 uk turbo which im planning to mod to 350hp...ish.... the mods will include;
fmic
vf30 turbo
stainless wraped headers
3" stainless exhaust
550cc injectors
apexi induction
apexi pfc
walbro fuel pump

could anyone tell me if this is possible with these mods? any help would be great thanks:thumb:

fuel pressure reg mayb

subaruturbo_18 20 January 2008 08:18 PM

don't forget the go faster stripes. :lol1:

stevebt 20 January 2008 08:24 PM

personally I would add an apexi AVCR

is that a boost controller? :)

stevebt 20 January 2008 08:32 PM

yes , it will help you maintain better boost and give better midgear accel ;)

ok thanks mate il have to add that and the fpr to the list then..:thumb:

p1dazza 20 January 2008 08:42 PM

550cc can do 380bhp at standard fuel pressure so an fpr is something you do not hae to have.

p1dazza 20 January 2008 08:52 PM

Dont know about a VF30 Iwould go for VF34 or 35

p1dazza 20 January 2008 08:56 PM

if you have to go to the expense of an Apexi PFC and AVC R you might as well get Simtek ECU which is far more capable.

p1dazza 20 January 2008 09:13 PM

I think you will find ported headers far better suited to your power level and they will spool far earlier than tubular and produce more torque right across the rev range. The area under the graph on ported headers will be greater than with tubular and that is what makes the car quick across country.
Harvey on here did a special deal for me as I bought ported headers and got a tube and fin Hybrid intercooler from him which is far better than the bar and plate. It arrived the day after I sent the Paypal and he keeps these in stock.

stevebt 20 January 2008 09:18 PM

but aftermarket headers are even better as they give more boost say at leats 0.2bar with say a maximum of 400rpm added lag as compared to ported headers ;)

GraemeR 20 January 2008 09:25 PM

TBH standard headers would do the job, I made 374 bhp and 375 ft/lbs on standard headers;)

agree and on the choice of turbo , i made just short of 350bhp with similar mods to yours but with a vf34
and only tek3 , but you obviously need an aftermarket so why not go straight for a simtec . 1045 + vat fitted and mapped with anti-lag and launch control , or £150 cheaper if you don't want ALS or LC

p1dazza 20 January 2008 09:42 PM

Ported headers will increase the boost by 2-3 psi anyway but that is not the important thing. It is the area under the graph that counts. Just ask anybody else with ported headers.
Kylejennings05: I also suggest you think about PFR7B plugs.

i dont no what these are mate ported headers and the pfr7b plugs:confused: if you could help me please that would be great:thumb:

Ported headers are the standard headers opened up at the inlets to improve the gas flow, Harvey does a service exchange deal with these usually;)

PFR7B are spark plugs m8:thumb:

thanks lol:thumb:

does harvy who ports the headers havve a website:)

Having been where you are now a couple of years ago i would advise the following.
Tubular Headers, VF34, fuel pressure Reg, simtek ecu.

My reasoning is simple. The VF34 is an excellent turbo and with supporting mods and correctly mapped will achieve 350bhp.

I would say a fuel reg is essential as my standard reg failed with a walbro.
It allowed too much fuel back to the tank and resulted in a cylinder running lean and wrecking the engine.

As mentioned if you are going to the Expense of a Power FC and an AVCR then you'd be better off getting the simtek.

I currently have the PFC/AVCR combo and I want to be swapping to Simtek too purely because I want rid of the maf sensor and I want the ALS, Launch Control and switcheable MAF options.

what can a vf30 reach then? because id be well happy with 320/330hp if it is possible? thanks kyle:thumb:

stevebt 21 January 2008 12:24 AM

if you only want 320bhp just map what you have and be happy and save lots of cash :D

I also have a 1998 UK Turbo.

This is what I did to mine.

Daz; Having had tubular headers and swapped them for ported with matched uppipe the difference was unbelievable. 1 bar in 4th @3150 instead of 3600. hat was the only change.
Spark plugs NGK PFR7B Better than standard.
This is all I can find. www.gecities.com/harveysmith3000

I don't think headers were your problem ??? I have a GT30R and I see 1 bar of boost before that !! ported headers will always limit your cars power ;)

dazdavies 21 January 2008 01:55 AM

Have to agree with steve on this.

I too have a rotated GT30R now and I'm seeing 1 bar at around 3000rpm.
The VF34 I had was on UK heads too. It was a great turbo and the headers improved things no end without any noticeble loss of spool.

I think turbo lag is a myth in some cases. My GT30 feels no lagier than when I had the VF34 on the 2.0L with standard UK heads.

I've no doubt that the ported standard manifol is very capable but I honestly think the GTspec tubular manifold is in a different league.

p1dazza 21 January 2008 02:58 AM

Steve; Where your gt30r r makes1 bar is totally irrelevant. I dont run the same turbo.
All I changed was the tubular gt spec headers for ported o/e with matched uppipe so you are not making sense saying

"I dont think the headers were your problem"

Lots of people have found that good ported headers outperform tubular well over 400bhp on a 2 litre.

Is your car 2 litre and what bhp.

"Ported headers will always limit your cars power"
Bollocks. Not up to 400 odd bhp on a 2litreas lots ofpeeps on here already know.

p1dazza 21 January 2008 03:07 AM

Daz; From what you say I guessyou have 2.5 certainly something bigger than 2 litres. With 25% more capacity obviously lag is almost eliminated and spool is that much lower.
