YOUR description of the sensors is spot on!! I can confirm that the Sensor in the Picci is definately a Camshaft Sensor. This particular sensor was fitted to all Uk versions of the 1.6, 1.8 & 2.0 Engines between May 1993 & March 2002. It was also fitted to all Import Engines from 1996 to 2002 Imports built before this Model year had Crank & Cam Sensors fitted that had a wiring harness that was part of the sensor, which in turn then plugged in under the inlet manifold.
