Max power of TD04??

Hi folks,
getting me car back this friday it has been away getting an ecu etc all fitted and mapped.:luxhello:
Just wondering what power uz think i will get with the car, im currently keeping the TD04:( until feb when i can get a new turbo, hopefully an andy forrest 18G or similar with 550 injectors.:luxhello:

What is the max power the TD04 can reach with the following mods all fitted:
Could the TD04 reach 300bhp????:wonder: :wonder:

Haltech ecu
Walbro 255 pump
Aeromotive regulator
Induction kit
Hayward and scott downpipe
Full blitz nur-spec r exhaust
Kakumei gt spc headers and up-pipe
Autobhan front mounted intercooler
G-reddy boost controller set at 1.2 bar

Cheers

Kevin

max give or take 270-280bhp:thumb:

RB5 Boyo 14 January 2008 08:17 PM

Hmm i would have thought it would have stretched to 300bhp??:( Maybe not!!:lol1:

What is my best option for an upgrade then, an andy f 16/18g or are ther better alternatives available?? Im aiming for 350bhp!!:norty:

mike799 14 January 2008 09:01 PM

vf34 or td05 16g should see you near 350bhp:) with supporting mods:thumb:

andythejock01wrx 14 January 2008 09:03 PM

You'll get 350bhp with the 18G and they're pretty well though of, but you'll also get later spool up and a bit more lag with the bigger turbo. A possible compromise is a VF35 - you'll probably be nearer 340bhp, but with better response.

Having said that, ported headers can help bring down the spool-up on the bigger turbos.

yes agree with you,my mistake 20g near 380bhp

300 has been achieved on a TD04, but i think ethanol was involved somewhere in the equation :thumb:

i have a jdm wrx with similar mods, the rolling road printout when mapped on the td04 showed 301 bhp and 315 lbft.
most on here would say the rolling road was optimistic however it is the very popular rolling road used by the very popular tuners in chesterfield (not naming names) so I think its pretty acurate, and it acheived this on super unleaded only.
what I must mention though is the turbo is clearly out of puff as the rpm,s climb, this means the engine is very torquey low down but the top end is more of a strain

projectsubaru 15 January 2008 12:49 PM

275 ish on normal fuels but as mentioned with race/methanol being used then 300 would be probably. However you would be better off even fitting the wrx old school td05 16g or a Andy F 16/18g

No hope of a standard TD04 pushing that, especially the torque, id check your turbo again to see if its a hybrid TD04 :)

the td04 will just make 300 or close to with right supporting mods on normal v power, but its very very rare, and tends to be when you get a damn good one. i know of 1 car that got near as in 298bhp or something like that, but as said its very rare indeed and tends to be more 260-270 figure.

dumped my td04 in favour of a vf34 :D and now running over 340

RB5 Boyo 15 January 2008 06:29 PM

I can get a td05 16g for £280 and it has only done 10,000 miles since being rebuilt, it is also converted to front entry for the later classic model so that mite do my job!!

Is ther much more lag with the 18g than the 16g do any of yous know?

The andy f td04 hybrid tickled my fancy too, but i was aiming for 340/350bhp and i think it would run out of puff before that, say at around 310/320bhp??
I would imagine thetd04 hybrid would be a fast spool up turbo though??:wonder:

Cheers lads

D-an-W 15 January 2008 09:50 PM

That it is, it also keeps blowing longer at the top end too :D

Hmmmm dont know....im stuck between the TD04 Hybrid and the TD05 16G....like the sound of the quick spool up of the 04 hybrid but think the 05 16g would have more of a boost kick and pull to the redline??!!:brickwall

What would you people go for going by the spec of my car??:wonder:

Thanks for all the help so far!!

Hello mate.

You have it about right. You just need to decide whether you want the ultimate in terms of responsiveness for your car or less response/later spool, but with more of a shove in the back when it does kick in. I went for the former, but either should be good ! The TD04 hybrid pulls well to the red line, unlike the standard TD04, by the way.

VF35. Can be picked up for less than a 34 and TD04 hybrid.

Around the same bhp potential as a 16G (well, slightly less), better response and lower boost theshold.

Ns04

Another possibility, as per post 5. :)

Generally 280bhp although I've had a very good example of a newage WRX that produced 304bhp  :D on pump fuel , mods were 3" Revolution exhaust, Magnex uppipe, CAI, STi TMIC and a Walbro

RB5 Boyo 16 January 2008 07:16 PM

Think im gonna go for the TD05 then as i know were i can get me hands on one....Although the VF34 sounds like a real good option too though, anyone know were there are any VF35's knocking about at??

Too many options, thats the only problem i have:lol1: :lol1: ....can someone not just TELL me what turbo:lol1: :p to get??

Just put the names in a hat and pick one out.
Sorted.

VF35s are often for sale on here. They were fitted to the early newage Sti's and peeps sell 'em when they upgrade their STi's. Not too dear as a result.
Better with ported headers to reduce spool, and they need bigger injectors (the TD04H doesn't need either).

Welli have a set of new unequal length headers getting fitted at the mo anyway so these should do the job!!

Woul i get away with my original injectors (my99 car) then with a td04 hybrid?? Could i still make 320bhp without the injectors and a td04h??:wonder:

my99 yellow 440's will be well in their capabilitys to cope with a hybrid td04 i would imagine
