My car was previously mapped but isnt no more, what happens if....

Hi all,

I spoke to the previous owner of my uk300 to ask him a few things and found out that my uk300 had been previously running 400 plus bhp till it blew the engine, he rebuilt the engine but it still has the original ecu, i have had it on rollers who say it now has standard bhp (215)

my question is... if i take it to be remapped will this cause complications for the remapper or will everything be ok and it will be fine to remap as normal?

cheers chris.

I would imagine it would be fine to be mapped as normal, the mapper should be able to take advantage of any upgrades left on the car that a standard mapped ecu cant account for.

If you have an ecuTek one too you should already have the software license so it will be much cheaper...

5t.

I dont know what was on it before the guy didnt say but i got the feeling that he liked playing rather than giving it to the garage to do the work, maybe i should call him and find out which remap it had on it then do you think?

its just i dont actually know the guy i just had a few questions so found his number in the receipts and rung him lol

With the ecutek there is open source software that allows the diy mapper to have a play. The ecu you have now though is that the one he was using to get the alleged 400bhp? If so, the ecu wont lose the map with an engine failure unless it was reflashed back to standard.

nshaunluke 08 January 2008 12:52 PM

Yes as far as we know the ecu hasnt been changed, we have the bill from the blown engine (£4500!!!) and it shows no mention of any ecu or anything like that

nshaunluke 08 January 2008 12:52 PM

p.s this happened at 36k and the car now has 66k so has done 30k on the "new" engine

jaytc2003 08 January 2008 06:39 PM

if its the same ecu then unless the map has been flashed back to std then you should still have a 400bhp map. could be previous owners telling porkies

nshaunluke 08 January 2008 06:56 PM

i dont think he was telling the truth bout the power but it was definately doing something cos it has had a rebuild, i have the receipt to prove that bit

just what i was thinking

for piece of mind i'd get someone to map it again
like someone has said you should already have the licence so that's half the cost covered

IF , of course, it has been mapped.

plenty of mappers to choose from
