2004 uk wrx

guys just a quick one

what power can a 2004 uk wrx engine take, on the standard internals without pushing it too much?

would it take around 340-350bhp or any more or any less?

steve

Henrik 08 January 2008 08:40 AM

anything up to 400bhp apparently (AndyForrestPerformance - 01-05 UK/Euro WRX)

stevie1982 08 January 2008 10:40 AM

wow thats higher than i thought it would of been

Tidgy 08 January 2008 12:14 PM

personaly i would change the turbo to a vf34/35 and then not go further untill you get a rebuild and new gearbox ect, as said on the site, it may take it or it may not, so depends if you can afford to risk the need for a rebuilt engine and gearbox, if you can afford the risk the save money and just go rebuild now, saves money in the long run.

how you go i think realy depends on how far you plan to mod to

stevie1982 08 January 2008 12:56 PM

ok thanks

i was thinking of uprating the turbo to be fair not too keen on running the risk of popping anything but saying that if i was worried about cash etc i would of been looking at a fiesta or corsa lol

thanks for your help

Good advice..;)

A newage WRX works very well with a VF34/35 and the usual right supporting mods and should produce a 'safe' 330bhp (+/-20hp) with similar/slightly less torque.

This, if the car is looked after the way it should be, even if standard, should
be well within the engine/gearbox's capabilities, making a very quick fast road car..:D

You will need to address the standard brakes however..!

stevie1982 08 January 2008 02:11 PM

breaks are uprated disks and pads for the moment lol

stevie1982 08 January 2008 02:13 PM

as for the vf34/45

the 2004 uk wrx engine has been fitted into a 99 uk turbo!

will the above turbo be a direct fit or will it need to be moddified in anyway

as i am unsure about this

steve

Varboy 08 January 2008 02:24 PM

straight fit....

stevie1982 08 January 2008 03:57 PM

what turbo fitiment is it?
90 degree or front entry?

so i assume it will be the same for the td04 already fitted. but what i am confused on is there much difference between the parts from a 99 uk turbo engine and turbo to a 2004 uk wrx engine and turbo? if that makes sense!

also will i need any gaskets or sealant or such things new washers etc etc?

steve

Varboy 08 January 2008 04:04 PM

vf34 will be front entry

Tidgy 08 January 2008 05:12 PM

y did the wrx engine get put into the classic shell, or was it a cheap replacement after it wne tpop?

stevie1982 08 January 2008 05:49 PM

yep you got it in one, went pop and then was used as a replacement, plus a selection of supporting mods, fmic, 550 injectors, spacer on manifold, induction kit, fpr, uprated fuel pump. full decat,

thats why i was asking regarding power issues and the turbo to see what options there could be as i think most of the supporting mods are there, (correct me if i am wrong) but i did not want to fit a turbo if i was missing anything or it would lead to any major issues regarding reliabilty (another engine poping) or something similar

sounds reday for the turbo then, def worth looking at oil coolers though ;)

stevie1982 09 January 2008 09:46 AM

really never hd one fitted what are the gains in these and are they easy to instal? what is a good location etc without moving too much

Tidgy 09 January 2008 10:46 AM

no gains whatso ever performance wise, just keeps the oil temp where it should be even on cooking hot days, pain in the arse to fit so got mine fitted by scoobyclinic

Henrik 09 January 2008 01:14 PM

worth keeping in mind that some people end up with surge issues with a vf34/35 and a fmic.

stevie1982 09 January 2008 01:29 PM

sorry surges issues?

sorry never had a fmic b4 what does that mean exactly?

will i not get it with the tdo4 as well?
