What's after Bit Torrent?

Hello

I was just wondering if there is anything on the horizon to replace Bit Torrent? These things seem to last a few years and then something better comes along:

I used Bearshare (which was okay apart from way too much child porn etc..), Dc++ (which was slow) and then Bit Torrent which has been and still is superb.

P2P File Sharing Programs, Downloads, Information and News BitTorrent KaZaA Lite WinMX LimeWire Gnutella normally has news on new P2P systems.

(i normally use Utorrent which is pretty good imo very easy on resources)

I don't think torrents will ever be 'replaced' they are just too popular at the moment. Yes usenet on average is faster and arguably a better medium, but it isn't free for the good stuff ;) Private tracker torrents are nice and quick to.

Its free from where I'm sitting ;) Private trackers (like TL) to find the good stuff, then get it from the newsgroups :D

Free full binary newsgroups? What from your ISP?

DJ Dunk 04 January 2008 12:04 AM

Yep, with Zen. Pretty good retention too.

Giganews for me. 200 day retention. $25 a month. Cheap as chips!

WRX_Dazza 04 January 2008 08:38 AM

giganews here too and BNR newsreaper....

i think giganews were going to close subscriptions to keep the user numbers down.

Newshosting - unlimited account with servers in Amsterdam and the US... I can max out my 20Mb Virgin connection at just about any time of the day (well, between 4pm and midnight at least until traffic shaping cuts in, then it's down to 5Mb). $14.95 a month...

And the best binary newsreader BY FAR - Newsleecher - with SuperSearch. Find, download, veryify and extract stuff with about 2 clicks. Fantastic... and well worth the annual subscription price.
