Help! Fast approaching insanity!

Hi please read and try and help! You could save a life!

I've done several searches on the subject but none of them quite match my stereo interferance scenareo. I've spent days taking things apart and trying to logically sort the whinning problem with no joy.

When I bought my car a year ago, the stereo and speakers were knackered. So I bought a new kenwood head unit and some front door speakers. All connected up and worked fine, although a little quiet and tinny. So I decided to add some 6 by 9s and an amp in the rear. Again all was well and loud enough for me.

Then whilst driving along some months after everything went mad. The 6 by 9's started making a really loud thumping noise. so i pulled over and disconnected the amp completely and carried on listening through the standard front speakers which are fine.

Now when I reconnect the amp I get a high pitch whine, along with/or thumping noise only through the amped speakers. This occurs when the engine isn't even running.

My wiring is all correct and present, power and rca cables are running seperately. When i remove the earth from the shell it sparks like hell and alters the whining frequency and thumping. After reading other threads I've tried running a cable between the earth on the head unit and amp to bring to same potential and still no joy.

The whining does however stop if I remove the rca cables from the amp but not not if I remove them from the head unit.

PLEASE PLEASE ADVISE!

It's a miricle! Just when i thought life wasn't worth living, i accidently sorted it. The problem was the rca leads needed earthing! I dropped a bit of bare cable across them and the head unit casing and hey presto. No whining and perfect sound.
Thank god
