Copying Photos / Tracks between Macs
Afternoon all
Have had a G4 PowerBook for 4+ years now and thinkin' about upgrading to a new MacBook. What's the best way to copy my Music / Photo libraries accross? Is it just a case of copying it all to a Dvd and then importing??? In terms of Software, i've got Office / Popcorn / Photoshop on the PowerBook, can these just be copied onto a CD and then dragged onto the new Macs desktop? :wonder: Thanks for any avice, it's gratefully received. When you first start your new Macbook it'll ask if you're upgrading, say yes and it'll talk you through moving everything across. Documents and stuff that is, programs are a different matter.

The Migration Assistant application, which runs as part of the Macbook's setup will allow you to copy over User accounts, Applications, Network and computer Settings, Files and volumes from the Powerbook to the new Macbook.
The copy is performed via firewire, so you'll need to get a firewire cable and put the old machine into firewire target disk mode (reboot and hold down the T key and keep it held down until the firewire symbol appears on the screen of the old machine) The new mac will then ask you what you want to copy over. |
What Marcus said :D

Otherwise, get a package called "SuperDuper" - it's brilliant if you haven't got Leopard.
I sue it between my Macs all the time - just use a separate HD either FW or USB. Works really well :) (Free too ;) ) Dan :) |
Thanks all.
MacBook should arive tomorrow ... I presume the Firewire cable can be bought from John Lewis / PC World etc.? Or is it included? Also ordered Tiger (Apple sorted me a good deal) to bring the PoewrBook up-to date(ish) and the missus is inheriting that. |
