wii on the net.. is it worth it?

i think i heard that the wii can be connected on the internet.

is it worth it?
how does it work,. whats the benefits and does it costs owt?

btw if a wii is modded ....... does it make any diff?

stevem2k 26 December 2007 09:39 PM

Costs nowt.

No issues if modded

live weather, news , mii competitions, everybody votes channel and access to the downloadable SNES/N64/Sega games.

If you have wireless router at home its a no brainer to connect.

Paddi70 26 December 2007 09:54 PM

Just note, this is Wii/ nintendo channels. Not the internet as you know it. And as above said, needs access via router.

wwp8 26 December 2007 10:17 PM

so its basically like a wii channel... news etc..
i don't have a wireless router.. but i'm temping at pcw. and theres a few sales on the buggers. and i can get discount on the other ones too.

Its good for what it is, but the Wii is not a PC. That said for update on its software and so on. Worth it. And routers are fairly cheep. I run desktop, notebook Wii and psp through mine for internet access.

Hopefully 2008 might see the release of the Wii Demo Channel which will enable Wii users to download (to the 512 internal memory or to SD cards) demos just as 360 users can via Xbox Live.

It's Opera - not too bad a version. Got to say though that with having the PC on all the time in the other room that I don't find myself using the Wii for web browsing but worth the download if you think you might.

Opera browser: Features on the Wii

You can use any USB keyboard with it.

wwp8 29 December 2007 07:22 PM

is there any online gaming on the wii?

Scotsman 29 December 2007 07:29 PM

A few games support it - such as Mario Strikers - but not many yet. I can see that changing next year though with such a large user base and all the publishers jumping behind the platform.

wwp8 01 January 2008 07:25 AM

just managed to get a wl router yesterday and managed to set up the connection.
is there any way to get the flash player for the browser?

Dr.No 01 January 2008 11:54 AM

The current version of Opera should support Flash - but only v7 IIRC.

Check this out, if you've got your Wii on the net. It's quite cool:

If you have a router you may as well get it connected. Theres no real point in using the internet as you can use a pc for that! Good for updates and the VC games though.

Do you have to pay for the Wii internet browser?

mine was the earlier one, it has opera already but no flash player

stevem2k 02 January 2008 08:55 PM

you can do a free update then.

Bravo2zero_sps 02 January 2008 09:12 PM

I got the free browser too, wondered why there was no browser when I recently set up my parents Wii with the latest updates. When did they stop it being free and charging for it?

stevem2k 02 January 2008 10:22 PM

when it was released as the final version instead of the beta they started charging.

Bravo2zero_sps 03 January 2008 06:44 AM

Ah ok, cheers Steve.
