Sometimes things are easier taking them to the garage, but if you have the use of a ramp then you may as well go for it, not forgetting that you will need to change the diff oils, engine oil, gearbox oil, plugs, possably the cambelt depending on the cars age, tighten everything up, but personally, if you have never done one of these or your not a decent mechanic, dont touch it :)

going on the old haynes manuals i'd say i was a 3-4 spanner rating, im quite happy to do brakes, calipers, i've changed a radiator before, exhausts, and have had the intercooler out for a good clean, im just unsure of where the plugs are for the diffs, etc, you know when you get a manual you get the " you will need sump gasket xx oil etc" im just looking for a few pointers. It would probably be quite a good how to section, say for an oil change. etc. cmon peeps let's get the ball rolling, I think with doing stuff like this the best thing is preparation, and having an idea of what you need to do. I will be doing a brake pad change in the next month or so and will post a how to. Anyhow finding a garage to trust nowadays is very hard how do we really know they have changed the diff oil and if it is the correct stuff they are putting in.
