Uppipe modification (Gutted)

is it possible to gutted the stock uppipe?

i dont want to buy a new one right now... because i think in a couple of months i will change my complete exhaust manifold incl. the uppipe....

does i need new sealings... or can i use the old ones for some months again.

does any one have a picture how the stock uppipe looks inside?

how much difficult is it to (de)install the stock uppipe?
how long time it usually need?

does a gutted uppipe have any effect? faster turbo spool ... more hp?

thanks for answers

I would not even consider smashing up the cat in the up-pipe, as if there are any tiny fragments left when you re-fit it, they could easily get dislodged and end up going through the turbo, which would not be very good to say the least, and would no doubt cost you a new turbo.....

Do not do this!!!

isnt it possible to smash the complete cat inside the uppipe without leaving any fragments?

when replacing the uppipe does i need a new sealant? or is it possible to use again the old one?

it might be possible, but i would seriously consider NOT doing it just in case, if you're going to the trouble of removing the pipe, just fit a non cat one.....

it's alwasy best to get new gaskets, however when you get it off, the old ones may be re-useable.... but if it were me, i would fit the new ones......

It's not a good idea as mentioned above but look here and some people have done the up pipe and also the down pipe, might be a way of doing it,
North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club
the other alternative is to buy a sti up pipe these do not have the cat fitted like the newage wrx upipe,
what car do you have?

Butty 26 December 2007 08:26 PM

There isn't a cat in the up pipe of a 1996 car, only in WRXs 2001-2005
Do you mean a downpipe? - the section after the turbo?

Classic up pipes don't have the cat in them. Still not a nice pipe as they are a bit messy at the turbo end. Can be tidied up with a little work from the old die grinder.

Exit to turbo
