HD xvid on my 360 .... two weeks late W00T

Updated my 360's couple of weeks late due to work and WOW

Just sparked up my 360 connected to the projector after Dl'ing Heroes ep11 in 720P.

looks great on the big screen and I'm so chuffed it now streams Xvid/divx.
Wireless and no stutter in the 10 mins I watched.

File size was 700meg for the 40min episode.

What speed is your wireless mate? mine can't cope at 108Mbps :(

chrisowe 19 December 2007 10:03 PM

I usually watch the 5gb mpeg2 version, I might see how this compares.

RB5-Black 20 December 2007 09:57 AM

that was over a 54G netgear router , no problems streaming it.

Your wireless router to you xbox wont be 108Mbps

It will be more like 20, if you're lucky. If you are going through a few walls it may drop down to 10, maybe less.

If you are using a channel other than 1,6 or 11 then it maybe even less, and if you have neighbours with networks it may be less again.

Hmmm it's a modern house so the walls are like pieces of paper and the floors are stiff cardboard.
Might see what channel it's set on but I'm pretty sure I haven't changed it from the default 6.

RB5-Black 20 December 2007 11:11 AM

I just let the episode run right through and not a single stutter due to buffering

I'm the same as you in that I have a new-ish house with paper thin walls. My router to xbox is around 10m with one thin wall in the way.

No problem streaming here either. What strength wireless signal are you getting to the 360?

Neanderthal 20 December 2007 12:10 PM

I'd have to check, but direct distance is about 6m from the PC to the router (maximum strength signal) through the floor and 3m from the Router to the 360 (they're on opposite sides of the living room).

Iain Young 20 December 2007 12:41 PM

Hmm. What router is it? I used to have a d-link, and that was terrible for streaming, whereas the netgear I've replaced it with is superb...

streetbeats 20 December 2007 09:22 PM

Are you guys streaming from Media Center PCs?

Any Mac guys? What;s Connect360 like?

Currently use a Freecom 400G WLAN MediaPlayer, so not really tried to use the 360 like that.

Neanderthal 20 December 2007 10:27 PM

It's the Sky BB Netgear jobbie.
Had a D-Link before that and it was pants.

My 360 either registers at 3 out of 4 or 4 of 4.
Router is on channel 6 using WPA-PSK

One I tried watching last night over Wifi was stuttering and almost in slow mo. I think that is a PC side issue? I watched a couple different ones and they were perfect. All pretty recent material.

Iain Young 21 December 2007 10:54 AM

It may depend on the compression. The higher the compression, the less likelyhood of stuttering (because the bitrate is less).

STi wanna Subaru 21 December 2007 10:56 AM

good point. I'll do some test later and see if that's the problem. checking the network stats it seemed to be hardly stressing it at all. I may be causing my own problems though as the PC and 360 are connect by wifi so the router is having to work with both to send and receive the signal over wifi.
