My Radiator
My radiator seems to be spraying coolant over its self for some reason or another. It has sprayed on the top of the rad (black part) and it is also along the top of the rad itself, plus some has run onto the fan housing.
The direction of the spray seems to be coming from the coolant bottle direction/side. My coolant level is fine (checked it this morning), the fan comes on as normal (as and when). Its not leaking from the rad cap thats for sure. what could it be? I don't know if its related, but say if I stop to get petrol I will let the car settle for a few mins then turn the engine off. get fuel. pay then get back in and turn the ignition on, punch in the BJax code and the fan will come on, then I start the car and the fan will run for a few more seconds, then cut out. Is my rad on its way out? |
Just get a pressure tester on there, pump up the pressure and follow the spray! May well be the top rad hose, they have a habit of getting brittle during the winter months.:thumb:

Thanks for your reply.

i have the same at the moment... and i had find out that my plastic bar side of the radiator is damage... i only had see it when i had deinstall the radiator

Split end tank, very common on scoobs.
Only option is to replace. :thumb: |
Might be worth revving the engine slightly from under the bonnet. Increased pressure/flow in the cooling system will make any leak squirt more, which should help in pinpointing the leak.

a member on another forum ISN suggested it could be the rad hose?
More likely a rad hose. The upper hoses on turbos have a weakness for developing tiny holes that spray a fine mist in the engine bay. Can be hard to trace until you know what you're looking for! |
Ehhhhhh, is that not what i said?:lol1:

I have had the rad hose replaced - £14 quid from Subaru.
But I don't think it was that. What's a split end tank? |
either side of the core of the radiator there are plastic end tanks. they tend to split and only leak when under pressure. very likely if your still on the original rad.
