Tin Top racing

Ive been thinking more and more recently about doing some racing on the (relative) cheap, and need to find out a lot in information, so...can someone please point me in the right direction for information and clubs regarding racing.

What Im thinking of is some sort of old golf/205 gti type cars with minimal engine mods and therefore not the hooge budget needed for top spec engines and the rebuilds every other race.

Also interested to hear from people that have actually done this kind of thing

Cheers

Im after clubs and websites that I can find the kind of classes and acceptable vehicles, costs, licenses, etc, etc

green scooby sport 10 December 2007 06:51 PM

there are a couple of championships and clubs you could join which arnt to expensive, there is a championship which races caterham 7 cars which have a sealed engine so its equal racing if you like it just comes down to the drivers the initial cost of the cars start from around £7,000 but the racing it self is pretty cheap check there web site graduates, another club you can look at is the 750 motor club they have a website also

Cheers...the 750 motor club looks quite good, as does the castle combe one..........can someone give me some rough prices for things like competion fees, race fees, etc

I like the idea of racing a car without too much bias on tuning therefore allowing closer competition

well ours are almost 180 quid a race,9 races a year so not cheap.only have to belong to castle combe racing club.I drive in class A but class d is very cheap but must be under 1400 cc.

Its just being in a race situation with other cars on track at the same time what a rush.

try this lot....

BRSCC - Homepage
www.msauk.org

they run events to suit all pockets.

Unfortunately you've just missed it but the London Motorsport show last weekend was aimed at people looking to start racing.

Also try and get to the autosport show 10-13 January as these organisations will be there, and you will be able to apply/enrol on courses to get a racing license and have required medicals etc....

does anyone have any links to racing forums, cos Ive been giving this quite a lot of thought and it looks quite do-able, but I nees to speak to those actually racing for some 'real' information etc
