Best of the Spec Cs v classic Sti Version V

Good evening my fellow Scoobynetters.

Which of the above is the better drivers car ?

I did a search, but found it difficult to find a direct comparison between the two, so :

- which is faster in a straight line ? (and which had the better power to weight)

- which has the better handling ?

- which one would you rather own ?

cheers for any thoughts folks.

andy F uses a version 5 typeR that says enough for me and RCM use an sti6 typeR,which are 2 of the fastest straight line and point to point imprezas in the country :thumb: if the spec C was a better overall car would they not have started with one of them :wonder: even tho i know andy has a spec C as his everyday road car

I think the reason they opt for the classic shape would be down to the advantage it has over the newage, regarding weight.

The spec C would be the better 'overall' car. Point to point, I'm not sure even a type R would touch it.

i personally think the spec c newage a to b only. is a very very fast car. i would favour mine point to point. agains say at type r or some think like an fq400

The Powerstation STi was a Spec C wasn't it? Seem to recall it trounced much higher BHP cars ...

TX.

TX IIRC that's correct ;) :thumb:

It's all down to your your preference ;)

I prefer the newage because it's much more suited to my "needs" It's my Family Car and my fun Car

And the STi V5 ? Anybody got a time for an unmodded version ?

In stock unmodified trim, not much in it, (classic probably slightly quicker in a straight line spec C almost certainly faster on a track or cross country) but the spec C is much more modifiable out of the box (see scoobynet project car), however for an all out modified car the slightly smaller lighter shell of the classic has an advantage (and looks better!) - that's my take on it

So they are similar in terms of grunt, but the Spec C handles better ?

I think you'll find both cars are far from stock.

Without a doubt. I don't know of any classic in factory stock trim that has done a sub 8 min lap of the 'Ring.

Stock for stock, the STi V won't touch the Spec C round the ring, 20+ seconds of a difference, I'd guess!

scoobynutta555 10 December 2007 06:28 PM

I'd plump for a typeR or P1. Spend some on mods with the money you save from buying a C.

I suppose that pretty much answers my question.

The point about Andy F's competition car isn't really relevant. Fair enough, he uses the lightest shell he can, and quite right too for his purposes. Couldn't help noticing though on chatting to Andy that he had a cool looking white Spec C outside his garage, tuned up to 450bhp or so IIRC. Obviously he could have had the same bhp on an STi V5 but preferred the more modern, better handling, safer car.

This is quite a subjective subject:D The new age shell is a lot stiffer than the classic and bestows the Spec C a with clear advantage in that respect. If both cars had a similar power to weight ratio then I cannot see the classic beating the Spec C. :thumb:

I'd have to concur with this TBH..;)
