On a Jap Import....
When I bought the car it had 33120 miles or similar on it, when it go to 33999 it stopped ticking round, presumably because the importer had wound back the clock to the equivalent in miles  About 50 miles later, before I'd got round to having it fixed/replaced it started working again. It passed 34999 OK, and also 35999, but I've recently hit 36999 and it has stopped again, presumably permanantly:( (Sssshhh, about 500 miles ago!!!) As I'm due for an MOT next week I am wondering whether I need it to work, or do I need to try and get it fixed first (this is the plan soon anyway) in order to pass??? The speedo still works as does the trip-counter, its just the main mileometer thats gone.

Cheers in advance

Sean

My ancient landrover's mileometer did the same as your car. It always passed the MOT. Therefore as far as I am concerned as long as the speedometer is working the mileometer doesnt matter. After all some kit cars dont have a mileometer.

However your speedometer does require to be calibrated in MPH for the MOT. I trust you have had yours converted?

The odometer broke on my first car, a Lancia HPE. (The odometer gave up at 233,000 miles - a record for a Lancia?) many years ago.
It went for 2 MOTs with no difference in the reading, the Tester tester noticed the raeding was the same as the previous year but said it wasn't a problem
