Exhaust Headers

Iv noticed theres 2 sorts of headers equal and un-equal whats the differnce apart from the obvous, bhp stronger......

:wonder:

i believe the scooby burble has something to do with the pipes being unequal lengths

scoobyDAZZA 09 December 2007 10:52 PM

you'll get more torque from the unequal but will lose the burble.

dazdavies 09 December 2007 11:23 PM

Correct me if I'm wrong but its the unequal that gives it the burble.

Equal Length headers take it away iirc

charis_sti 09 December 2007 11:32 PM

unequal= scooby burble
equal= no burble but better torque

Mocom Racing 10 December 2007 08:03 AM

From the one's I've had first hand experience with, a true equal length manifold will move the powerband up - not neccessarily any more or less torque but just higher up the rev range.
Equal length results in pretty much a complete loss of the Scooby burble.

Anything that increases the manifold volume will increase lag and delay spool that is for sure.....some equals arn't much bigger volume than stock, some are MUCH bigger, but those do increase the top end by more due to the longer primary length... (similar way to the original long exhaust manifold on the Sierra cosworth's versus the late stubby ones on the 4x4 on)
