Why doesn't Hamilton just be honest ?

Firstly the attention/media...oh actually tax reason that as to why he is moving out of the UK - should have been honest up-front.

Now his "shock" at being nominated for BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Oh come on - he must have known full well that he was pretty much favorite for this - rookie year, most podiums & wins for a rookie and just misses the world title by 1 point.....etc.

He seems to have this carefully crafted image of goody 2 shoes but why can't he just say "I thought I might be in the running due to a fantastic first year in F1" etc.

People are not stupid.

fast bloke 05 December 2007 01:46 PM

He should have said "There was never any doubt about this", but I think that he probably isn't allowed to speak his own words after he made a quip about being "stuck down the back with the monkeys"

Snazy 05 December 2007 01:49 PM

lol why dont people take him out from under the microscope and give him a break ;)

EddScott 05 December 2007 01:57 PM

He's like the kids at school who you just knew would pass their exams with flying colours yet its the biggest surprise to them when they do indeed come top of the class.

Shark Man 05 December 2007 02:05 PM

He's still at a very influential age - so everything he blurts out isn't him talking....it's what his advisors/PR manager/father told him to do/say.

Give him some years and he might start speaking his own mind :thumb:

Butkus 05 December 2007 03:32 PM

Does anyone know who the other nominess for Sports Personality of the Year are?

Shark Man 05 December 2007 03:35 PM

Dunno, I turned over the channel and got mesmorised by Drew Barrymore's breasts on BBC1 instead :o :lol1:

Abdabz 05 December 2007 03:53 PM

Ricky Hatton is up there :) No Beth Tweddle this year though :norty:

:lol1:

BBC SPORT | TV/Radio Schedule | Sports Personality | Sports Personality contenders

Andy Murray is in there (even though his brother won a Grand Slam title this year!)

they you get the press saying he is arrogant :)

he cant win, well he CAN win, but you know what i mean :D

PeteBrant 05 December 2007 04:54 PM

Can you imagine the thread if "big head" Hamilton said that it should have come as no surprise that he has been nominated for BBC sports personality?

There is such a thing a humility, I dont think that when obviously talented people display it, that it should be criticised.

f1_fan 05 December 2007 05:05 PM

He can't win can he? He has never said the only reason for his move to Switzerland is the tax situation, but simply that it played a part in it alongside the earlier reasons given.

The way the press are in this country I don't blame him and anyway if I had the chance to get out of Stevenage and the UK and go and live in a beautiful country like Switzerland and pay less tax to boot I would jump at it as would at least half of you.

As for the Sports Personality quote given the press here how do we know what he is supposed to have said isn't taken out of context. Even if it isn't and he said 'Oh yes well of course I am nominated and should win it' then there would be another thread on here moaning about his big head.

Give him a break for goodness sake!!

Have you got any proof that what he said about moving to Switzerland was not the straight truth? How can you say that his comment on the Sportsview Personality is not also the honest truth.

You are acting like a gossiping old woman over the garden fence passing remarks born out of pure jealousy!

He's a young lad FFS, so why can't everyone give him a break - I can't believe the amount of posts/threads berating Hamilton when we finally have a British driver that could win multiple F1 titles.

The berating smacks of some sort of envy IMO, just give the lad a break, I'm sure we all skirted around issues at his age without being honest.

fast bloke 07 December 2007 02:06 AM

Why can't he be arrogant - If I could do what he can do I would be arrogant and fek the nicey nicey press stuff. Come out with it and say ' The UK tax system punishes high earners, the chavs won't leave me alone, so I am taking my tax burden and popularity elsewhere'

Perhaps people ARE stupid after all ! Or gullable.

Gear Head 07 December 2007 08:34 AM

Exactly, if you're as good as he is, f^ck what everyone thinks!
I'd like to see some of the 'moaners' on here try and achieve 1% of he has.

How can you be so miserable? The boys done good. End of story. He's expressed suprise at being nominated. Maybe he isn't.
Why are you so bothered?

Vampire 07 December 2007 09:11 AM

Why does he have to tell anyone anything, regarding his reasons for moving?

It's his business surely?

idf101 07 December 2007 10:18 AM

The question i have is that this award is called sports "personality" of the year now with all due respect to his undoubted driving skills i have to question is he really a personality of the year?
So it may be the award should be renamed sporting achievement of the year?

Dream Weaver 07 December 2007 10:34 AM

He seems like a nice bloke to me, or to be a "personality" do you have to go round shagging loads of birds, getting into fights and acting like a ****, circa Eddie Irvine the fat retired F1'er ;)

That would be typical of Britain though, championing a womanising, flighting lager lout. :(

No but i would have thought the ability to laugh or have a sense of humour, not to speak in monotone and always look like he wished he was somewhere else (Switzerland?) and ignoring people who wanted his autograph would add credence to him being a or having any kind of personality.

But he's not black is he. He's a half caste so how can you accuse people of being racist unless you think people are being whiteist?

Nothing to do with being gullible. Its just being prepared to accept that he is an honest person unless proved to be otherwise. I would rather do that than immediately suspect him of being a liar with no good reason for doing so. Its known as common decency even if that is disappearing out of the window.
