Hotel in Newbury

Hi,

I need to overnight stay in Newbury on the 18/12.

So, since this place is the source of all knowledge can someone recommend a decent hotel to stay in.

Nothing cheap, but not really expensive either - company business.

I'd like to be as close to "The Lawn, Old Bath Road, RG14 1QN" as possible because i've a meeting there at 8.45 the following morning.

Plus, any idea on cost of taxi from Heathrow?

Thanks,

Shaun

These are Ok and close by:

Regency Park Hotel, Bowling Green Road, Thatcham, Berkshire, RG18 3RP, UK
Welcome. Donnington Valley Hotel - Spa - Golf Club

Taxi will take about an hour. (£50 ish ?)

(If Pete doesn't make Christmas you could also get a cheap night in the home ;) )

Could well be. A certain computer / software development company by any chance? ;)

you work at micro something or other then

as an ex newbury cabby the cost to heathrow will be between 70-80 pounds

pay anymore and you are getting turned over by the local privateers

ring 01635 33333 - cabco - they are the local firm and they will send you out a fat b@stard to pik u up

i would stay at the elcot park hotel (half way between newbury and hungerford but you dont get screwed in traffic - a 10-15 min journey)...nice surroundings

or the donnington valley hotel (about a 5min journey)...fit eastern european receptionists last time i was there

they are both that side of town

the regency pk is the other end and was a nightmare most of the time ferrying VIPs in rush hour traffic

hilton north is another cheaper option or even the travel lodge at chieveley

BTW newbury is a hole...been here 7 yrs and want back up north again...

dont stray from the road and go to the coopers arms, the catherine wheel or uncle henry's...all similar to the slaughtered lamb in american werewolf

a taxi from heathrow will cost you more if you use the blackcabs

ive heard stories of 'foreigners' being charged 100-150 pounds to newbury..and you know how slow they go?

id get cabco to pik you up from the airport....75 pounds last time i was working for them

Jesus, not easy to get to Newbury using public transport either.

I'm told..

Heathrow express to Paddington.
Train to reading, then swap to another trans to Newbury.
Then Taxi
Approx 1.45 they say.

Think i'll just do as Lostboy recommended and call cabco
