Life On Mars becomes Ashes to Ashes
Just read about it in the paper.
In the spin-off, DCI Gene Hunt comes to London and Keeley Hawes (the ex-Spooks bird) replaces John Simm as the bird who goes back in time to (apparently) 1981. Anyone else know anything more? If it's the 80's, at least the music will be better! Life on Mars was such a fantastic series - can't wait for this :thumb: |
Your kidding me? the 80's was the worse decade ever for music with about 2 or 3 bands only being worth a mention.
Calling Gene... |
Gene was on the phone to Chris Moyles this morning.
the car he gets is a red quatro and they have almost finished filming. On in Feb apparently, Life on Mars was a great show cant wait for this! |

I suppose it depends on your age at the time.

I was born in 1980 and the music was tripe, as I said, very few bands to come through it with any shine. 70's was much better and I didnt even grow up in that era.

IMHO 1965-ish to late 70's was best period ever. I keep telling my kids this but you can imagine the reaction  What's fun though is when they discover a "new" song and I can point to the original version way back. dl
(PS. Anyone see the Clapton thing on TV over the weekend? - terrific) |
Look forward to seeing this, really enjoyed Life on Mars :)
|
I'll watch it as the script should be funny... :D
As for the music, I was born in the 70's, had a very happy childhood etc, etc, but am well aware that the 70's musically was the most embarassing decade since the 1500's when "Hardcore Harpsichord" was the number one album for 46 weeks  The music will be way better thanks to the 80's influence :thumb: |

I shall look forward to that coming on in February.
I reckon that the best popular music was in the 60's and the early 70's. Always worth listening to that when they play it sometimes on BBC4. Les |
ALL eras have good and crap.
Lots of crap in the 80s (as with the 60s,70s, 90s, 00s). You just take what you like out of it. Some greats of the 80s (and subsequently of course! shows their longevity I suppose): The Cure The Smiths REM U2 The Chameleons and many more. Some of the above have been just about the biggest bands in the world with massive tours and album sales. As I say, all era's have good and crap. Anyone who writes off the whole of a given era is highlighting the fact that they know diddly-squat about music. |
But a Quattro ?
Doesnt sound right for the Gene Genie does it. |
I've noticed thin ties are making a comeback...gawd,kids never believe you when you tell them these were in twenty years ago.
I was at school in the eighties...it was Michael Jackson Thriller time and everyone wore one glove |

I hope there's plenty of style council tune's in the series one of my favourite bands. Some of great music in the 80's you just have to filter through the ****e!!
