Who do I call to get electric connected?

This might sound like a strange question but I have just bought a house that was repossed by the bank, so I am guessing all of the services will be cut off?

Who do i call to get the electric and gas connected up as there is no longer just British gas and Seeboard there are hundreds of companies?

Any ideas how long it will take to do?

If there is already a supply into the house (ie it's not been cut and capped off externally), you should just need to contact a supplier (N-Power, British gas, etc, etc) and they will arrange to supply and connect the meters.

If it's been cut off externally, you'll need to apply for a new supply - possibly through the local infrastructure companies - though I think the rules have changed recently to allow more companies to arrange the connections.

On the other hand, I could be wrong, as it's a couple of years since I last had to arrange any service connections at work.

HTH.

Edit to add:

Oh and in terms of how long, it's a bit like asking how long is a piece of string. We've had connections arranges in weeks, but on one job getting an electric connection ran to several months, as the electric company lost all the parperwork

Few!

taken 2 hours to find out the suppliers and start the process of getting them reconnected, apparently oth have been cut inside therer meter boxes, whatever that means?

I hope it doesnt take too long....

Probably means they pulled the main fuse on the electric and re-sealed it. :p

Dunno what they do with the gas... maybe disconnect the meter and cap the pipe.
