Petrol Price - what would you pay before giving up your Scooby?

All the moaning and I bet most will be prepared to pay a high price - not like it, granted, but willing to pay whatever it takes?

Given experiences in certain countries I have lived in, people will pay the extra price to keep driving even to the detriment of food supply for children.

Well I've been thinking on and off for a few months whether to sell it. If it goes up silly money I'll get rid for another Elise, 50 mpg on Mway on crap petrol.

I've already given up on the Scoob so can't vote. If I get another it will be a toy for occasional use, so fuel price will be of little concern.

Don't have a Scoob any more, but I drive a car I like driving because I like driving it. If petrol was 20 quid a litre I would still drive it. Clients would pay a lot more to see me though

How could you get rid of the Scoob because of high petrol prices?

Who would buy a car that does 20mpg :wonder:

I have thought long and hard about a diesel giving 50mpg - but, the fact is that I like what the Impreza is capable of (I don't use it's ability much, though).

I get about 30mpg on a run in the Scooby and 26 around town .... 50mpg would save me a reasonable sum and it is tempting - but, you earn money to do those thing you enjoy with it, so ..... I'll probably pay whatever it takes!

I've already got a 2nd crappy car (and it is REALLY crappy) that I do most of my commuting in, for the main reason of making the running costs of the Impreza more palatable. Running two cars works out cheaper than just driving the Impreza everywhere.

I'd love to drive the Impreza all the time, but its just doesn't seem sensible :(

i would just cut down the miles i used the scoob for. use my motorbike more :)

Works van used for commuting - Fuel paid for.
Other halfs Astra Coupe for non work type outings - Fuel paid for by her company as its her works vehicle too.
Scooby only gets used for ocasional fun use, so i`d pay whatever it costs. I reckon that would be different story if I used it every day.

doesnt worry me ideally my company pays for my fuel, all it actually costs me is 40% taxable benefit so around 45p a litre in reality now. If it went to silly stakes like 3-4 pounds id just use my motorbikes more for the thrill factor, and put a cover over the scooby more often.

Difficult in winter!!!!!

My Scoob has only done 400 miles in the last 17 months so fuel prices dont really apply.

However running my 1.8 16v focus as a workhorse day in day out is now becoming very costly, even at 35mpg...

Already thinking about a diesel. Sick of getting 20mpg at over £1/litre.

If it gets to £1.20 a litre, I'm trading in for a Diesel.

Audi do some fast Diesels now. Looking at either a 2.5 or 3.0 Diesel.

It will be a sad day and I never thought I'd ever consider buying a Diesel.

Unless you are doing 100 miles a week is it a massive difference ?

There are people that will drive a round to save 4p per litre, on a 50 litre tank it is only £2 more to fill up.

What can you buy with £2 ?

As mine is a toy, it costs what it costs, yes it hurts but as a broken nation what can we do ?

I jumped into ownership knowing full well the price it would take to run it, plus i don't do many miles, maybe 8k a year.

Do the miles in the vRS, get the adrenalin rushes from the STi.

The wifey could always order the shopping online to save the fuel. :lol1:

i voted whatever it takes. At the end of a day, fuel prices have gone up for everyone, not just scooby drivers. We just have to pay a bit more for the miles we do, but its worth it.

I think the only way i'd sell the scoob is if i had to change jobs and commute a lot further.

£2 for me, probably another 5 years ??

I would pay whatever it takes - as it stands I only do about 5k miles per year if it increased i would get a little run around

I only do £6k per year as the greenwagon is just for my scooby meets and the odd show or two and is a 2nd car to polish and cherish for ever

It seems most will pay whatever it takes ..... so why all the complaining about the cost?

Imagine, higher price = less cars on the road = clear lanes to enjoy = laugh at the chavs on benefits who have no more money :D

Fuel costs are ridiculous.....on my second scoob now, and the move from Turbo 2000 to MY05 STI PPP is horrendous, especially when its my daily driver and I´ve done 16k in 9 months ffs.........but the love of the car overcomes the hatred of fuelprices, would rather pay the extra and drive something I enjoy while I can who knows when kids will appear and I´ll be demoted to a hideous diesel people carrier LOL

I can easily see fuel hitting the £2/ltr mark in less than 2 years. Add to that the prospect of a grand or 2 for car tax and I can see there being a lot of bargain Imprezas around in the near future.

People will pay whatever it takes, but it will all be reflected in the economy and inflation

I do about 2k miles a year, its just a toy for the wknd for when im not working, which is hardly ever, so not really bothered about the price of fuel!

However i do have a TD i use to run around in to and from work etc

Run the scooby as a daily driver as its cheaper than my toy to run. ALso have a diesel 106 im fixing up at the moment, may end up putting that one the road and commuting.

Todays oil price was $88.19 with a 1 year forecast predicting $116.45, or a 30% rise. Not as bad as some think, but world events could shape that differently.

PSLewis, I loved what my old Impreza was capable of, but my little Furby is probably quicker from 30-70 than my WRX, and on my own unscientific test managed to match the 5 seconds that Prodrive used to quote for the STiPPP. The AWD, sublime chassis and my own awesome suspension set-up means through challenging bends it is maybe 30mph slower, but it managed to keep many a Scoob at bay on track earlier this year :D

I think everyday fun cars will become the preserve of the wealthy, or as limited use toys for most. My own musings sees me wanting to keep my diesel for everyday and working, and something fun for the weekend when the mortgage no longer matters. Maybe not even a Scoob ! I quite fancy a BMW M-(Z)Coupe or Z4 Coupe, maybe a Monaro or something I can get the tail out with.
