Help needed - burning plastic smell...
I have a really nasty burning plastic type smell in the shower room. I am at a loss to know what to do....bad attack now of girlie-itis.
The extractor fan - I cannot see any motor in the room itself, looks like a separate motor in loft - which looks ok. Shower is electric but not warm to touch. The light fitting seems ok. Any thoughts - what else I should check and where? I dont think the house is in danger of smouldering down but I am now worried. Thanks Sara |
Get an electrician to have a look, we had similar at my last house, called Scottish power and as soon as the chap entered the house he said 'That's certainly an electrical smell) :wonder: Turned out the cables going in to the lecky meter were melting the plastic covering off  He sorted it and said 'glad you called or it would've gone on fire eventually'

Thanks Tam. Its a very distinct kinda smell isnt it? I was hoping I was imagining it but just gone back in there and its not going away.

Have you got a light fitting flush to the to the ceiling, when we had one in our living room that started to melt the wiring underneath I changed it and the wires pretty rapid I can tell you.
