Can anyone import my car for me?
hi there :)
my car is currently in hong kong and i can get it to the ports and de-regsiter the car myself.... but was wondering if someone can take it from there on?... i'm not too clever with the rules and regulations of importing so would rather pay someone to get it On the Road for me. any ideas who would do such a thing ad would have thought jap car importers would only bring in car themselves to sell and wouldnt bother with personal services. the car is a Version 5 Type-R 1999 ... owned it for just over a year now and cant seem to part with it!... any help appreciated :thumb: |
getting it sva'd in this country will be a PITA,there was another post last week of someone who had done the same and couldnt get it registered

Is it not different, as the car is owned and the owner is changing address. Private Import or something. :wonder:

still needs registered for this country if he's here permanantly tho as its being deregistered in hong kong,the way folk used to get around it is register in southern ireland and drive across the border.

see what i mean fellas... its one big headache to do yourself ... so ideally , would like a 3rd party to sort all the paper work, payments , work etc for me...
really dont want to sell the car as i dont feel i have driven it enough... and it be very much standard... engine wise... it be a really big waste.... any places i can goto ?... |

I Imported my Type R through Vision Performance, they are only based in befordshire, and are doing everything for me including the SVA etc...

yeah k18llr but yours is a 97 model,doesnt need as much for the sva as its over 10 years old and there is a model report available,the problem with a 99 V5 is there is no model report and its around 5 grand to get one done.But try one of the importers see what they say

J-m imports recently brought a Lambo over, IIRC, well under 10 years old.

the problem is with the model reports for the sva test,i know of someone who imported an R34 GTR himself as he didnt want to wait till 99 to get one but it cost over 5 grand to get it on the road,

and mine is a version 5 typeR but it was imported brand new in jan 99 before the model reports were needed

Might be better selling up and buying one here to save the trouble IMO.

This is the trouble when you ask a question on a forum, isnt it? Everyone is an expert. The knack is in telling who knows what theyre talking about and who is simply repeating misinformation that they read elsewhere.

If the car is yours and you have owned and run it for over a year then youll only need an MOT and a simple SVA certificate in order to register it. I could do what you have asked, as Ive imported many cars from Japan, but you dont need anyone. When you get it here, in order to register it, youll need a certificate of de-registration and translation an MOT and an SVA certificate (you qualify for this as the car is a personal import -this is a legal definition, most cars are commercial imports, whether personally imported or not-). Hong Kong isnt a usual source for cars so I doubt that anyone (either here or generally) will be any better able to achieve this, than you are yourself. You have the advantage, in fact, by being there. It really is as easy as I say: contact a shipping agent and establish whether there is a RORO service available; if not then youll need to container it. Either way the agent will be able to sort it all out for you. Im happy to advise you when it gets here. Simon |
Thanks alot for your information, your extremely helpful.
Im actually in UK right now to spend time with the family over the xmas period and head back to HK at the end of December. Once i get back i'll query about the RORO service and what ports are availale. Do i need to book a UK customs agent in advance or is on the day sufficient time for them?.. once it arrives all i need is the de-reg certificate to get the car out the port and get it MOT and SVAd? thanks again :) |
When it lands you just need to call them up. Youre looking at about £60 to clear up to five cars (there are plenty of crooks wholl attempt to charge over that for each car with disbursements on top!).
When it lands all youll need to release the vehicle is the documentation sent by the shippers agents here and perhaps a copy of the bill of lading. Simon |

That is a good price the best i had was £750 +vat for mine until they found out it was a v6 r type i had with no model report available shot up to £1150+ vat.who quoted you ?:thumb:
