Can anyone import my car for me?

hi there :)

my car is currently in hong kong and i can get it to the ports and de-regsiter the car myself.... but was wondering if someone can take it from there on?...

i'm not too clever with the rules and regulations of importing so would rather pay someone to get it On the Road for me.

any ideas who would do such a thing ad would have thought jap car importers would only bring in car themselves to sell and wouldnt bother with personal services.

the car is a Version 5 Type-R 1999 ... owned it for just over a year now and cant seem to part with it!...

any help appreciated :thumb:

getting it sva'd in this country will be a PITA,there was another post last week of someone who had done the same and couldnt get it registered

mickywrx 01 December 2007 04:00 PM

Is it not different, as the car is owned and the owner is changing address. Private Import or something. :wonder:

exvaux 01 December 2007 04:07 PM

still needs registered for this country if he's here permanantly tho as its being deregistered in hong kong, the way folk used to get around it is register in southern ireland and drive across the border.

Borat_Drives_A_Scooby 01 December 2007 07:05 PM

mickywrx 01 December 2007 08:21 PM

J-m imports recently brought a Lambo over, IIRC, well under 10 years old.

exvaux 01 December 2007 08:26 PM

the problem is with the model reports for the sva test,i know of someone who imported an R34 GTR himself as he didnt want to wait till 99 to get one but it cost over 5 grand to get it on the road,

read

exvaux 01 December 2007 08:30 PM

and mine is a version 5 typeR but it was imported brand new in jan 99 before the model reports were needed

wrx-kris 01 December 2007 08:34 PM

As Micky has pointed out, talk of ESVA and Model Reports here is erroneous. If the car is yours and you have owned and run it for over a year then youll only need an MOT and a simple SVA certificate in order to register it. I could do what you have asked, as Ive imported many cars from Japan, but you dont need anyone. Contact a shipping agent and establish whether you can get a roll-on roll-off service from HK (Id be surprised actually, but you never know). If you cant then youll have to container it but you can mitigate the cost by filling the slack space with other possesions. When it lands here youll need to use a customs agent (I can recommend an excellent and cheap one) to clear everything and a delivery firm for the car. If its containerised then the shippers agents here will be able to sort out everything that you need with regards to stevedoring and delivery.

This is the trouble when you ask a question on a forum, isnt it? Everyone is an expert. The knack is in telling who knows what theyre talking about and who is simply repeating misinformation that they read elsewhere.

Are you in that field of business?...

You know which port would be best or nearest?... im in south wales...

if you were to bring it over for me, would all you need is the de-register certificate ?

mickywrx 01 December 2007 09:50 PM

Woo hoo!! I might have got something right for once. :D

Think, from Simon's post, that you'll need to organise a container/shipping. Unless Simon's willing to arrange it for you.

PM may be quicker for a reply.

MMMMMM think your nearest and best port in south wales would be port talbot..but it is true that alot of scoobs that are imported go to a big auction site in ireland..and thats where all the dealers buy from..good luck :thumb:

You usually have to make do with the ports that your chosen shipping firm operate out of. I like Newcastle (in fact, Im a closet Geordie), but the best firm only go as far as Southampton, so thats where I used to collect from.

When you get it here, in order to register it, youll need a certificate of de-registration and translation an MOT and an SVA certificate (you qualify for this as the car is a personal import -this is a legal definition, most cars are commercial imports, whether personally imported or not-).

Hong Kong isnt a usual source for cars so I doubt that anyone (either here or generally) will be any better able to achieve this, than you are yourself. You have the advantage, in fact, by being there. It really is as easy as I say: contact a shipping agent and establish whether there is a RORO service available; if not then youll need to container it. Either way the agent will be able to sort it all out for you. Im happy to advise you when it gets here.

Thanks alot for your information, your extremely helpful.

Im actually in UK right now to spend time with the family over the xmas period and head back to HK at the end of December. Once i get back i'll query about the RORO service and what ports are availale.

Do i need to book a UK customs agent in advance or is on the day sufficient time for them?.. once it arrives all i need is the de-reg certificate to get the car out the port and get it MOT and SVAd?

thanks again :)

Simon 69 02 December 2007 03:21 PM

When it lands you just need to call them up. Youre looking at about £60 to clear up to five cars (there are plenty of crooks wholl attempt to charge over that for each car with disbursements on top!).

When it lands all youll need to release the vehicle is the documentation sent by the shippers agents here and perhaps a copy of the bill of lading.
