Wireless and Vista

A relative has a wireless laptop and bt broadband which is giving him a real headache.
The laptop sees the router but the network connection is local and therefore wont access the internet.
How in Vista can he rectify this, diagnositcs don't seem to do much so he's currently accessing the internet via an ethernet cable.
Any pointers appreciated.

Nik.

Can you not access the router and have the net always on? I use PPoE settings on the router with my isp details stored so I don't have to use my AOL to sign on everything I want on the net. I don't even have the aol browser to access the my isp on my laptop but because of my router/modem setup the net is available as soon as I connect to the network.

most probably going to be the router's setup.

Did it not come with a guide to walk you through this?

Also, I know I bang on about this, but make sure you have WPA encryption enabled. If you hardware does not support this, get some that does. WEP is too weak and can be hacked in minutes without you ever knowing.
