hi mate just wondered if you can help, i have a subaru impreza turbo on the logbook all it says is subaru, it was imported in 1999 year of manufacture is 94 looking up my vin it doesnt seem to match any on the sites ive found or the on the link you posted my vin is gc8 019356 any ideas?:notworthy

The reason your VIN number isnt matching up to the codes listed in the link is because they are Applied Model codes.
Look at your VIN plate again and copy down your Applied Model number,its on the left hand side of the VIN plate and try checking it again.
Any problems just ask again.

Because most sites show the applied model code (body model)

A UK VIN is 17 characters long and will start with JF1

For example a 1997 Turbo 2000 is

JF1GC8KD3VGxxxxxx where xxxxxx is the serial number part

K is for RHD
V is model year where
V-1997;W-1998; X-1999; Y-2000; 1-2001; 2-2002; etc...... A-2010

On the 7-digit Applied Model Code, digit 5 is for the market the car was sold in.

2,4,5 = JDM and shows the number of doors
K = UKDM
Y = USDM (left-hand drive)
L = Europen (left-hand drive)

Not totally accurate as K is for RHD in the General and European (G&E) markets
and L is for LHD in the General and European Markets.

The UK does not have a specific market area to itself and comes under the "European" banner.
