I would like to extract all allegations that I made against the owner and staff of Enginetuner Ltd which I made after the rolling road day held on 18/11/07.

My car produced lower than expected power on the test runs, we have now established the reasons why;

1/ The Dyno was set up for the wrong type of car (Which Alan has apologised for).

2/ My car has two maps which I was not aware of, and for some unknown reason had been switched to the lower boost map.

So I apologise for any defamatory remarks that I made against Alan and his staff.

I don’t want this thread turning into a slanging match, so if it does can the Mods please lock it, life is far to short for arguments.

Good to see a thread like this, I would recommend Alan to anyone, he has worked on my Impreza recently and done a cracking Job, he seemed very helpful on the phone and in person.

At least you have now got to the cause of your problems, have you managed to switch it back over to the higher boost map? :norty:

Alan worked on my Opel Manta years ago and I had no complaints.

I don't understand this, I've never heard of a car having 2 maps that can be switched unless you have an apexi or something - more info please..

Ecutek has map switching (or rather boost level switching) on some models.

Sorry to be a pain but can you explain this more - how was his car running a lower boost map if he doesn't have an apexi or the like to switch it ?

Are we saying Bob enabled map switching, programmed the ecu with a switchable lower boost map and that this was somehow enabled by holding the throttle down full whilst switching on the rear heated window switch at some point between being mapped and being put on the rollers ?

Even if you can assume it possible that the car was running the wrong boost map by some unlikely sequence of events involving switching of it at some point then surely the boost figures on the rollers on the day would have been a pretty obvious reason why the car was running less than expected ?

I'm gonna duck out of this now as either I'm missing something or there's a different agenda going on..

As Paul said - it is possible.

Not all dynos monitor or chart the boost profiles - I am unsure of Alan's set up but the ones I have gone to on shootouts dont tend to unless you specifically ask for it to be logged.

I can understand the confusion bartop. The problem was that it wasn't known that the ECU had a boost switching map on it. You might way that someone should have tried to switch maps and see just for the hell of it, but hindsight is wonderful. I've had customers accidentally switch maps and forget that they ever had map switching, simply becuase they only drove it at 100%! I don't think there is any sort of hidden agenda, just a minor mistake, the owner has apologised, and ET have offered a free retest of the car, I think that about closes this.

Well done Merv, you are a top man and I am glad that everything has now been cleared up.

I would love to know how many times this has happened before as Paul at Zen has stated.

Considering the complexities of high performance cars and the relatively simple mechanics on a dyno, I wonder in surprise why people who do not get the figures they expect blame the dyno. When the chances are, the car is not performing on the day. There are a multitude of reasons why any car can have a bad day – and nothing to do with maps.
