Rebuild 2.5?

iv got a v4 sti ra the car startd to knock so im havein a rebuild i wondered if u lot could help

im afta a set of forged pistons, rods, crank and oil pump that are will be good enuf to hold 350bhp reliable.

A queston for the ppl that have had the 2.5 conversion, i will be doing more track days nxt year im not a massive fan of top speed more corners so is it worth haveng the 2.5?

:wonder:

If you'are going for an engine out rebuild silly not to opt for the 2.5 It's a much strong engine, and able to handle more BHP more reliably than the 2.0 not that the standard 2.0 couldn't cope with 350bhp.

I've got 350 bhp with my 2.0l and it copes very well. But if it ever went bang, I'd go 2.5

SAVE !!! :)

scoobysmiff 27 November 2007 07:42 PM

400 is a bit dodgy due to the pistons! they are eutectic coated and have a very fine bore/piston tolerance so when producing more power they get too hot and nip up, better to put some drop in forged pistons if you want over 350 on a 2.5, there are loads on here that have done it! speak to one of the respected tuners for advice, RCMS for instance.

Indeed, SAVE cos it aint a cheap slope to get onto and it is a slippery one, once you start............................................. ..........................................bugger, the wifes left me etc etc

I blew my 2.0litre up and when i came to rebuild it, Zen Performance give me this advice -

If you are going to use mainly on the road get the 2.5L
If trackdays are your thing get the 2.0L.

The 2.5L is much smoother, but you don't get such a feeling of acceleration.
The pull starts much lower down the rev scale and keeps on going.

an ej257 block would probably be cheaper than having yours rebuilt
if your staying at the 350 bhp mark then just get the standard lump

straight swap then . Mark at Lateral does very 'keen' prices on the block in question.

Have a word with Ivan, they do rebuilds, parts etc. JUst done a 2 litre swopped for a 2.5.

THeir Customer " Andy Pandy" is going for over 400 Brake in it.

White ST 05 December 2007 10:09 AM

it says close deck im not 100% on these engines (i was a ford man) but when i was on the fone to the garage that will b fitting it and explaind what it lookd like he thinks its a closed deck but isnt sure untill he sees it.
all i can say is have alook on the flat4 website to view the engine

EddScott 05 December 2007 10:14 AM

Is insurance a problem with a 2.5?

White ST 05 December 2007 10:22 AM

couldnt tell u as i will just get it added to my company insurance

STiFreak 05 December 2007 11:01 AM

Seems a few folks are starting to offer 2.5 CDB
(see Engine Blocks - Flat4online.co.uk Subaru Impreza Mitsubishi Evolution EVO Walbro Fuel Pumps Injectors Intercoolers for an example)

Someone please correct me if I am wrong (as I am not at all certain about this), but I think these blocks are standard ODB, that have been closed with molten alloy.

If you have one of these, then cool, as it should be able to take a lot more punishment that the 2.5 ODB.

White ST 05 December 2007 02:21 PM

yer its a closed deck just took the car and engine to the garage they use a blocker to make it a closed deck

exvaux 05 December 2007 03:49 PM

do you get under piston squirters on the 2.5 like you get on the 2.0 and 2.2 cdb?

White ST 05 December 2007 04:53 PM

im dont know about that 1
